Bitwig Studio is THE BEST DAW!

Post by Mr_You »

Hi folks! Not much came up in a search so I thought I would make a quick post.

On my recent music production journey I've gone from trying Ableton Live, to a groovebox, to a tracker, and now to Bitwig Studio.

Bitwig Studio came about after some Ableton Live developers decided to break out on their own. It could be considered a rewritten modular architecture or next-gen version of Ableton Live. This software is more powerful and easier than most EVERYTHING, including $3k+ hardware workstations. It's modern, rock solid stable, and I'm getting <3ms latency under Ubuntu Linux with the Liquorix kernel on an old dual-core i7 laptop with 8GB RAM.

All the Bitwig builtin instruments/devices and instrument samples sound great for my music. I'm only using Bitwig instruments/devices, Addictive Drums 2 (with LinVST), a Novation Launchkey Mini MkIII, and my Line 6 Helix Floor or HX Stomp and Variax Standard for music production and eventually live performances (with live drummer). I may add a Launchkey 49 MkIII when they come out. The Novation SL MkIII is another good option. EDIT: See DriveByMoss controller extension.

For each song, I'm working on creating live performance versions within the Clip Launcher (grid) and arranged distributed versions within the Arranger. The end goal would be where I can play a song live with lots of preset switching automation going on, but intervene at certain parts to extend a jam.

If you're looking for a new DAW or new to music production then definitely check out Bitwig Studio. There's a lot of enthusiasm for this DAW and every few months there is something new.

I came across someone say at times Bitwig feels more like an instruement than a DAW. That's a really good way to describe it.

Give the demo a shot!

This isn't the first time my enthusiasm makes people suspicious around here.

I'm just really excited that I found a "musical instrument", though software based, that is really enjoyable to use for high quality music production. Having tons of options (DAWs, multiple soft synths, and VSTs) can be overwhelming making creating music more like work than fun for me.

Bitwig Studio is intuitive FUN and they're focused more on making the best DAW vs marketing and training (Ableton). I support what they're doing and hope others discover it.

after watching those videos I have concluded it is not the best DAW or better than Cubase but glad it is working for you . Perhaps you should do a drum jam , if it lets you :D It reminds me of fruity loops which I hated but this could be even more of a PITA . When you are done fucking around get Pro tools or Cubase and forgetaboutit .

What is this "drum jam" you're referring to?

drum jams are over in the "amps" Doods make a drum loop about a min or 2 and then the other Doods jam over it and post it.. and then we usually laugh and smoke out , or vice versa .
