I've had so many different amps, I'm hoping something with lots of options will let me keep it for awhile lol. I seem to get tired of stuff quick.overdrivenel34s wrote:HELSTRUME wrote:Man stupid input on my head broke. Figured I will replace it with a new one, and prob sell it. Think I will either get a Katana head, or 1x12 combo. I just don't want to get the head, and it sound horrible through my cab lol. Watched tons of vids of people tweaking distortions for different bands, and I think I want one to play with. Some of the tutorials are just great. These guys most have spent tons of time with the software. Guess i'll see what speaker people like with their heads. I like the new Blackstar silverline also, but a lot of people said they are not reliable. We'll see what happens.
The katana's are great for grab and go, versatility, realibility and good decent tones especially in band mix. At home i tend to not play through the katana much as i have other amps i prefer the tone better. Even my tech 21 trademark 30 little combo i play a lot (sitting right next to my computer) sounds better to me. Marshall DSL50 through splawn 2x12 cab sounds worlds better! With that said i have been happy and impressed with the katana. I've gigged tons with it and it has worked great.

Scott, I need your vast knowledge on building stuff. My input jack is a box with 9 pins. All the 9 pins are stereo, while mono is only 4 pins. I can still use the stereo right? This is what the jack looks like.

That is really weird looking, but yeah, I would say if that is what the original looks like, then you should use that one. I dont know of any other jacks with that many pins. Stereo shouldn't matter. Maybe they are using the extra connections to short to ground to make it quiet when not plugged in, or something.

Yea, I was like wtf when I saw it. Guess we'll see what happens
Re: SS Posse
Got the jack and wired it in. Works perfect
Re: SS Posse
People are saying the Celestion V-type and GT-75s work the best with the Katana. The 75's give it the bass it needs, and the V types have a flat mid range for modelers. And I saw that Blackstar uses the V-type with their silverline amps.

Awesome. I figured it would be an easy fix. Usually the biggest pain in the ass is taking everything apart to get to it.

I originally set up presets through my GFlex 212 cab. When I moved it to my 212 with a V30 and G12T-75, it didn't sound great, lol. However, once I re-tweaked, it sounded fine with that cab. I think it is just a case where you have to dial it in for whatever you are using. It is pickier on switching cabs than my tube amps are.
Re: SS Posse
I heard from people they were picky. But also heard you can only really tell when you play at volume.
Re: SS Posse
For me, it was lining everything up perfect, to screw back together lol.Shask wrote:HELSTRUME wrote:Got the jack and wired it in. Works perfect

Re: SS Posse
Scott, how do you like the triple x cab? I found one in great shape, and was wondering if it was worth it.
Re: SS Posse
Damn, its been a while since I have played online. I couldn't remember my passwords lol. So what are you guys doing? I got rid of the B-52 head, and all my pedals. I just have the acoustic, my Strat, and the b-52 cab left. Depending on how the new head sounds with it, i might get something else. Nobody still has the lefty schecters i'm looking at, so that sucks.

Last month I finally bought the tools and learned how to fret level. I did 4 of my guitars. I also picked up a cheap Schecter Omen Extreme for the fun of it, and I am liking it a lot.
I wanted to start playing with my recording software again. My computer died that had it all installed on quite awhile ago. I pulled the hard drive, and set it up to be used as an external on a different computer, and updated all my licenses. I pulled out one of my old MIDI keyboards and fixed the USB jack so it quit disconnecting from the computer.
I got a set of Kali Audio LP6 V2 Studio Monitors yesterday. I wanted to mess around with running guitar modelers with speaker sims again. It has been a few years since I have tried it seriously. I can also use them for my keyboard stuff. The only monitors I had, I have had for like 20 years, and they never sounded great.
Oh, I bought an empty Seismic 212 cab, lol. I almost forgot. I had a few extra speakers laying around and figured they should go in something instead of sitting in the basement on a shelf. I bought some V30s and G12T-75s and put them in the XXX cab. I haven't used it much yet though. I think I am finding nothing sounds good in my basement, lol.
I kinda went on a mini spending spree after not buying any gear for like a year.
Re: SS Posse
At the moment i'm thinking about just putting a custom neck on my Strat, and new pickups, pots etc. I think its my best bet. I love how heavy it is "weights 10 pounds" And it sounds good. Not sure about the amp thou. I guess i'll have to spend some real money this time lol.

I always pick out the lightest guitars.
Re: SS Posse
Most people do lol. My friends Strats weigh nothing. He picked mine up, and was like damn.
Re: SS Posse
Fret leveling is the only thing I've never done. Where did you learn? Is it easy to F up?

I have considered it for years, but finally just did it. I have just watched several Youtube videos on it through the years. It wasn't too hard. Just go slow, and dont take off much at once. You cant put it back once its gone, lol.
Re: SS Posse
What grit sand paper do you use? And are you setting the neck perfectly straight? What length bar are you using? If I get a new neck, I'll probably need a neck level.
Re: SS Posse
I have a fret file, rocker and all that. But never got the sanding bar. I was kinda scared to fret level.

I think I used 330. That is kind of fine for leveling, but I wanted it to go slow so I wouldn't take off too much at once. I bought a slotted straight edge, so I can lay it right against the fretboard to see how flat it is. I am finding that good for setting the relief after I am done also. More accurate than the push the strings down and eyeball it method for adjusting the truss rod. I think the bar I got was 16".
Re: SS Posse
I have a straight edge, but its not notched. I'll get that and a bar. I'll do my acoustic and a friends old guitar first, and see how it goes. I watched a bunch of vids, so we'll see what happens.
Re: SS Posse
Got some tools, and did my friends guitar slowly. I took a couple of hours. I crowed and polished the frets, and no more dead spots
