New Between The Buried and Me - Colors II

Post by SuperFlyinMonke »

The singles didn't float me too much, but this is more of an album band and the album doesn't disappoint. If you've dug this band at any point before or after Colors, you should give it a listen.

Here's the latest single that came out today:

I'm on round number 2. It's mesmerizing front to back. It's like they managed to make a new album to be nostalgic. Frequent nods to past albums.

For sure. Standouts for me are:

Double helix of extinction
Prehistory
The Future is behind us
turbulent
Never seen/future shock
human is hell

Pretty good ratio lol

Coma Ecliptic is their only release that never really grabbed me too much. Other's I like in varying degrees, a lot of the neer stuff especially certainly can cause some "prog exhaustion" and is a lot to process. I don't think I was bored at all either listen through on this release though

Yeah, tons of really great stand-out songs.

I'm stoked as hell. The BTBAM Discord was going around about the different "animal sound" that is on every album and nobody had guessed the one on Colors II yet, but I did:

I guess I can't time stamp. It's 3:58 in Never Seen/Future Shock:

I keep trying with this band, as they do interesting things. However, even with the interesting stuff they do, they somehow manage to bore me to death. I made it 4 songs in, but just couldn't...
My Tech Grind'ish band, Sulaco
My "I dont know how to describe it" band, CHRMR
My old instrumental prog band, BML
My metal band, Contrarian

Buy my Signature Mason BG Hellabucker

Friedman BE100 :shake:
Marshall JCM800 1987
Helix Floor

Happily endorsed by ESP Guitars and BG Pickups
Also, lot's of Charvel's and Fender's on hand

I can totally get that. I got into them a long time ago and got used to the vocalist along the way, but I can understand why some people would be totally turned off by them.

This release keeps blowing my mind though. It's such fucking clean production. This is a new benchmark I didn't need to be made.

The vocalist isn't the issue, though I do not like when harsh and clean vocals are mixed. I love harsh vocals (shit I'm in a grindcore band and a DM band) and I love clean vocals. Just don't like them mixed. But even that isn't the issue. I can't put my finger on it though.

I've definitely experienced fatigue listening to BTBAM albums in the past. I mean that in the best way possible, but I totally get how its not for everyone

Colors II really keeps my attention and vibing all the way through tho

I haven't heard the new album yet, but I did order a copy of the limited purple/ highlighter yellow vinyl. I went to order it on amazon because it only showed one copy left, I think as I tried to buy it some one else did. I ended up finding a copy going through amazon GB, last copy they had, tracking shows it'll deliver tomorrow! Can't wait to give it a listen.

Damn, that's a long time to wait. It's been 2 months! I've listened to this album at least 20 times. It's wonderful.

I got the Revolver yellow/blue, but it's like swirling green.

TBH I don't know if I'd start with their newest for just getting into them. The first Colors, Silent Circus, and Alaska would by my recs

I'd agree with that. I would start with Alaska and go forward chronologically if you really wanted to get into it. Coma Ecliptic might be the most approachable and Parallax II: The Future Sequence is the most cohesive. Colors II is a culmination of a lot of past work and it's fucking random, but brilliant. It's probably a hard one to get right onto without any prior catalogue listens.
