So I had the chance to play an Orange TH30 last night

and it sounded absolutely killer. I didn't have the chance to turn it up though, is that amp loud enough for a heavy band?

Yes but it will be maxed out.

I liked that amp a lot but its basically an overgrown tiny terror on the inside, and the clean channel was meh. Was super bummed to see how cheaply made it was given how much I paid for it. Sold it off to pay for an ad30.

How did/do you like the AD30?

I tried really hard to love that amp.

yeah defo! I love the TH30. It was originally a toss up between that and the IRT60H, and I went with the Laney because it was more versatile. The dirt channel on the TH30 is sexual. The clean channel sounds cool with an EP booster but not great on its own, and you will need a 'verb pedal.

Also it depends if there is another guitarist and what amp he is using, but there is a lot of volume on tap for a 30W.

Some days I loved it and other days, eh. It needed pedals to push it in to having balls because by itself it was weak and anemic. Wasn't my best gear decision, but the th30 didn't inspire me enough to replace it either.

The th100 looks interesting for sure but I'm still concerned the clean channel is crazy sterile.

true that. That's pretty much my experience too.

So many modern multi-channel production amps ignore a nice clean channel :-q

yeah now that you mentioned, I didn't try the clean channel at all. The drive channel sounded good so I just stayed in it. A sterile clean channel would be a deal breaker... cheaply made at that price is also a no-go. Glad I asked about it. Pass.

1) Buy an EQD Monarch.
2) Play into current amp.
3)Skip expensive import amps.
4) Profit???

:D

I'd like to play one as well. My local GC carries 2 oranges. The tiny terror and the micro terror. *Stops himself from ranting on how shitting his local GC is*

Everything was pcb mounted on the th30 and cheap components throughout:

Again... Wampler Crush The Button for the closest to that Orange high gain sound. The Monarch is epic, but not quite there. The OLC Orange Peel, tech 21 oxford are further steps away, and the AMT stuff isn't there at all.

Having owned a real OR120, I have to say the new oranges are fucking stupid. :D

Too bad they're expensive.

A under the radar great clean amp for cheap is the SUNN 200S

Dual terror transformer set.

So basically they charge a $600 premium for the headshell. Lame

:D

It wasn't that it was like bugera quality or anything but I don't feel it was worth $1200

Had not heard of the Wampler CtB before. Wow, that does sound really really really really really awesome.

Not that the ad30 was much better. Pcb was thicker and connections were soldered for the most part but still had board power tubes:

Haha man, I can imagine most new oranges don't stack up for you.

Have you tried the OR50 or the Retro 50?

Yeah 'tis epic! I have been on a quest for a pedal to get close to the Orange hi gain sound for ages, and I do believe that is the closest you will get (at this period of time). I did a review of it in the review forum, check it out if you get the chance :-bd

Can't comment on the TH30 so I'd have to go with Dave/Ron/Chuck on that one -- the pictures sure look like a TT

I have a TV50 and it's not going anywhere soon. The "clean" channel is fine -- it's the channel that I use the most. Plenty of character, not at all sterile.

The AD30, well, it is a love/hate kind of amp. I have posted that plenty of times at HCAF. Most complaints are with the gain and overall volume. For me it is a keeper. An AD30 + Fuzz + an SG loaded with P90s = great sludge. Probably not what you are looking for Billy.

I think the days I was frumpy on the ad30 were the days I was trying to make it sound like a plexi Marshall which isn't what it was intended to do.

With a fuzz it almost always put a smile on my face. A fuzz with a lot of output really pushed the ad30 in to LOUD territory.

I wish I would have kept it to drag out on rare occasions. I'm working on fixing that at the moment but not the ad30.
