This dude is great. Explains thing simply and plainly. Best Hendrix style lessons I have found down the rabbit hole.

Thank you for this thread.
The thing I like best about Jimi...ya know how each guitar player within their style has his/her own voice? Jimi has his own conversation. To me, his playing sounds so immense. It's simply so much grander than any other guitarist's, in my opinion.

Oh god. You posted "The Note".

:freak:

I've always got a hard on for Jimi.

Lately, it's been a raging Blurple Boner.

His music and playing is just so beautiful and free of garbage. Even when he's laying the tracks on thick.

Hendrix is God but these days I find it hard to listen to him. I exhausted his music when I was kid and studied it religiously. Same thing with SRV.

In fact I think I focussed so much on Hendrix that I missed out on guys like Kossoff and even the live Cream stuff that I've been so into laltely. Its only been recently that I've really started to study the genius of the other british blues guys like Peter Green and Mick Taylor.

Of course Hendrix ruled and recorded some great music, but i don't think any of us witnessed his true genius and vsion, which was his live performance.. There are some great videos that definitely give a great view of the performance and i can imagine what it must have been like, but i think it still falls way short of experiencing it live.. What he was doing back then would blow peoples minds.. And his best playing was during live performances..

When i lived in Germany we had a 4 LP collection at the flat called "stages". Not sure if it was a bootleg or what, but it had one performance from each year 67, 68, 69, and 70.. And listening o the evolution thru those years was awesome....

It's understandable. I did that with the first three Metallica albums. I don't even need to listen to Master of Puppets. I can hear it note for note in my head.

Jimi on the other hand, just fascinates me. As a musician and dude.

A close friend started in a few weeks back about how he thinks SRV is better and blah blah blah. I had to learn him that there is no best and SRV wouldn't have been who he was without Jimi. I'm not sure he quite got it.

Right. That hammer heavy bottom E string. BOMP.

Live at The El Mocambo is the closest I've ever seen anyone come to channeling Jimi.

Plus, Stevie is just blasted and gakked out of his gord. He can barely talk. But when the music starts, he doesn't miss.

Kinda the same way here. (As far as Jimi anyway. Never cared for SRV). I still fuck with a little bit of it, but not like I used to. I got burnt out on it, and forgot more than I know anymore. I focused mainly on his live stuff. Most studio stuff either bored me, or it was too much of a pain in the ass to decipher.

I have a cousin who's a total noob player who wants me to teach him all the Hendrix @ Woodstock stuff that I know, but refuses to learn any kinds of basics. He doesnt even want to learn other peoples stuff.

I need to check into Peter Green. Already a Mick Taylor fan. I need to listen to more of his stuff.

Same here, learned my first Hendrix song in the 1970s, hard to listen to a lot of his stuff nowadays. But it's always great to see some obscure clip now and again and still be amazed by the feel and soul of his playing.

I love how he starts the song while Mitch is setting up his cymbal. I love how Mitch has to set up his own cymbal.
