Murdoch wrote:You have heard about the study done where they are suggesting that teachers don't use red ink to correct students' schoolwork, haven't you? It's because red is a bold color, and they say it comes across as too aggressive, too severe, and it would make the children feel like they were being shouted at. It's suggested to use a purple pen instead.
please tell me you are joking.

It's all fun and games until somebody gets a soap bubble in their eye.
Think about it.

it's no wonder schools these days suck so bad. My kid is on 6th grade. I was helping him with homework last night, we were doing percentages and at a point I asked him how much was 20 divided by 2. He had to set it up on the paper to calculate

Murdoch wrote:I think it's the way that society is skewing. Teachers are so limited in what they can do simply because everybody lawyers up if someone so much as farts at them. Teachers can't help kids say please and thank you, because assboil of a "parent" will say "That's MY kid!!! How dare you teach him/her your sense of how he/she should act!!!" God forbid any sort of discipline. And what with all the sex scandals that have surfaced, a teacher can't give a student any extra help with schoolwork because then some rumor would start that they are diddling kids. So basically they're left with actually doing all that stuff and being terrified of being sued or losing their jobs in this shitty economy, or they just teach what the curriculum specifies, and let everything come out in the wash.
That.

THIS. "Zero tolerance" results in some really odd bs but it is the only to protect the teachers from moron parents and the lawyers that love them. I could never teach below the college level because of that. FERPA makes my life so much easier!
Oh, and I stopped using red pen years ago. I actually find myself writing more info on the papers since it no longer looks like I am bleeding on them.
