what kind of cable do I need to connect monitor speakers?

The title already say it:
I was wondering what cables I need to connect monitor speakers to my audio interface? I know it's jack-jack, but would I need to use regular guitar/instrument cables or speaker cables like the ones I use for connecting a power amp to a speaker cab?
Thanks,
Lars

Does your interface have balanced outputs and monitors balanced inputs? Then TRS (stereo plug). If unbalanced, TS (mono plug). If possible, just use XLR-XLR instead of 1/4".
For active monitors, use instrument/microphone cable.

If the monitors are not active and your using a power amp, use speaker cables and keep the cables under 20 feet.
