imo, Swedes have the best death metal bands in the world for sure but Im just talking black metal here.

what say you guys.

Im leaning towards Norweigan here because I seem to favor the sound of some of those bands better and they seem more evil if that makes sense however Quorthons genius is unparalleled in the metal world and just for his lasting legacy and the birth of Viking metal which is pure fucking win it may make me lean towards Sweden. idk im torn.

Norway, and it isn't even very close.

Norway totally. Emperor and Mayhem alone would win it for me alone.

I honestly didn't recognize many of the Swedish ones.

I'd say Dissection and Naglfar are more blackened death metal than black metal though. In fact I can't really think of too many swedish bands that are purely black metal, I know lots that are sort of melodic death metal and black metal hybrids.

But it's a tough one to say. I do love Emperor. But I love Marduk as well.

But don't forget Finland.

Bathory and Marduk are the only ones I recognize. I never thought of dissection as black metal but I can't say I've listened to any recently (or much at all) to compare.

I also do not claim to be huge into black metal.

Yeah to me black metal = Norway. It's the country I associate the most with that style.

I have no dog in this fight. But I will say that since Sweden gave us The Hellacopters, they win.

Norway. They've burned a lot more churches.
