Zoom G3 for cover band?
Here's the deal. I currently have a pedalboard with wah, joyo utlimate drive, digitech synth wah, akai phaser and behringer uv600 (the verbzilla clone). I am looking at replacing everything (other than the wah) with a Zoom G3.
I play funk and disco covers and need combinations of modulation and basic octave stuff like what the synth wah does. I would like to be able to turn multiple combinations of those effects on and off when changing from one preset to another (by pressing one switch). A noise gate would be nice as well. Would the G3 do the job nicely? I ask because I have a partial trade offer on the table for a G3. I know the newer gen Zoom units sounds are good. I don't really need drive tones as my amps will provide those just fine.

Should be fine I cannot see a problem with it.

Absolutely. I have a bunch of pedals in front of my amp with the G3 in the loop. Once upgraded to 2.0, it does 6 pedals at once and the models are really awesome.

I have another offer for an RP1000. If it were between the G3 and the RP1000, any idea on which would suit my purpose between those 2? I know the RP has a ton of switching options, but really, if I can easily scroll between presets on the G3, those switching options become a moot point.

I am not a Digitech fan, so the choice would be easy for me. Plus, the G3 is just so easy to use. Hook it up to a USB cable and program with your computer. Drag n drop the effects you want.

If it were me, I would do the rp for the fact that it will do 4cm. I was trying to decide between the rp1000 and m13. The m13 got it for eventual use with the mini amp gizmo.

Like I said, I use pedals in front and the G3 in the loop. Before buying an RP I would buy TWO G3s--one for out front and one for the loop!

I considered that also, but g3 in the loop, and g3x out front.

Works for me! Typically I hate anything that I have to program but the G3 is so easy it is more like have tons of pedals to choose from.

Re: Zoom G3 for cover band?
Just got a G3X yesterday.
Spent some time setting it up for my live rig today and the more I messed with it, the more I liked it!
I will also be using this for effects only ... my amps sound awesome no need for modeling.
