Agreed. Bobby has been teching for them for a few years now. Wonder why Kirk left or got kicked out?!?

Bobby just posted this on his FB: Feeling very lucky to have this gig w DOWN.... It wouldn't be the same without Kirk Windsteins blessing. He is Riff Lord and the new Crowbar will be amazing......

I think Kirk is leaving because he has more important obligations like recording more albums with Jamey Jasta.

yeah it won't be the same with or without Kirk's blessing. Honky fucking sucks IMHO.

Maybe now Pepper can re-join COC and Anselmo can find something else to do. Down = Pepper and Kirk. It's one of those guitar duos that just works too well together. You take one of them out, you might as well close shop.

What do you not like about Honky? I think they're really good when they're on. I haven't heard any of their new shit but that Balls Out In album is great IMO.

I shouldn't have said they suck. They're alright... but very cliche IMHO.

ok so now I decided to give Honky a good listen and they do have quite a few great songs. :D
I still don't think he's the right guy for Down though.

That's weird.....

I will say this, Bobby Rock is a badass guitarist with epic tone (LP > tubescreamer > 2203). I caught Honky for the first time a year or two ago (they were opening for Down actually IIRC) and they floored me

I bought the Balls Out Inn album at the show and it sucked in comparison. Its like all the energy was sucked out of it during the recording process :(

I might have listened to it twice, total

BOI had terrible production (especially the guitar tones) but its a good album if you can get past it.

I agree he's a great player, I just find it weird to see him as a replacement for Kirk in Down. Honky is mostly a party/funny band and Down (specially Kirk) is the square opposite of that.

To me, it would be like hearing that say, Paul Stanley is replacing Phil Anselmo.. Can the dude sing? Sure he can, but still.. :freak:

Ya Honky is ZZ Top on steroids. Not exactly known for their heavy/sludgy stonery riffs.

I always think of them as a ZZ Top / (70s) KISS mix up. Pinkus sounds a LOT like Gene Simmons at times. If I listened to a song like "Just a Man" and I was told that's Gene Simmons singing I'd believe it without hesitation.

Pike would've been the perfect replacement but I guess High On Fire is too big now for him to even consider something like that. Still, I would love to see Pike and Keenan in the same band

On the one hand that would be cool, but for me High on Fire >>>> Down, so I'd rather see him focusing on that

Man after the "Purple EP", I'm surprised there's anyone left in that band... lol

According to the Crowbar FB, Kirk leaving was on good terms.

It wont be the same without Kirk. I know nothing of the new guy, other than he's teched for Down. Never heard Honky.

I'll give it a chance. I hope the next EP is better than the last.

Dont care what anyone says..Kirk is a MONSTER guitar player. Kirk's stuff really shines through on Down II. Theres lots of stuff on that album that just jumps right out that you can tell is his.

Seeing Kirk is focusing 100% on Crowbar, I'd like to see Pepper get back with COC & do something. Hell..even an EP & a small tour would be great. Then again, I'd like to see Pepper do a side project of his own. Looking forward to whatever comes about.

I'll say this, I think Bobby is a better lead player than Kirk or Pepper... Not that Down is really known for leads or anything.

lol. I remember teaching a friend of mine the "lead" in Lifer. he says "Wow...that's all? one string?" When I play it my way, I throw Hendrix octaves in there to "dress it up" a bit lol.
