Post your fiddies and discuss mods, tube swaps, settings, ect... All models welcome. Here's mine:

Anyone tried a III with a high powered GB? It sounds killer with the stock EVH speakers, but I'm wondering if it would be even better with Creambacks, Lynchbacks, ect..

Here's my little guy, works pretty good boosting the crunch channel with a TS-9 and a MXR 10 band in the loop. CAn't the lead channel to sound the way I want though, too thin and spiky/fizzy. Maybe a speaker change would fix that

Try a Swamp Thang. They sound godly with fiddys.

I love these amps. I have had many of them.. signature, block, II, combo etc and they all sounded great. Never felt the need to mod anything on them. They have such an iconic tone for modern heavy music, you don't want to fuck with it. They're in a way, like the Marshalls of modern metal; there are amps that are more expensive/fancier and yet the 5150 is the amp they will be judged against.

I downsized all my amps from about 8 to 3. 5150 survived the cull!

Here is mine...

It's a bit stripped down...haha

My experience with Lynchbacks - sort of a cross between V30 and Greenbacks, but I could be way off base. I like how 5150 amps sound with V30s but prefer Greenbacks. Having said that, I think the Lynchbacks would be excellent. If nothing else a little more low end than stock greenies.

Demos with the new Creambacks are intriguing, but I'd have to try them out myself.

Thanks. Yeah, I've heard that about Lynchbacks. I've heard the same about Creambacks, but apparently they lean a little more towards GB's whereas LB lean a little more towards V30's. That said, the speaker I'm most intrigued by is Creambacks. I just wish there was a way to demo speakers somehow. Speakers suck to buy, because unlike something like a pedal or an amp, which you know if you don't like, and can return right away, speakers you don't really know until they are broken in. And by that point, most places aren't going to take them back.

Anyone try Mullard 12AX7's in the III? I can't get them locally, so I would have to order online. I'm wondering if they are worth it.

Count me in, I've got a 5150 III, and a 6505. Great amps for metal.

Well, TBH I think this amps sounds godly with just about any speakers  . I think I'm going to pick up some Creambacks at tax time. I just need to find a place that has 16ohm in stock.
