Can anyone recommend a decent luggage set?

Well I'm kind of a grown up now, and with a pending visit to Europe, I've realized I need a decent 3 piece luggage set. I currently have one, that's carry one size, but I need to get a larger one, and I'm assuming buying a set is the best way to go.
Obviously, durability, quality and value are what I'm aiming for here. I would prefer wheels on them, but that's not a must. Are the hard-sided ones the way to go?
Any suggestions?

Tbh, I always buy whatever the cheap shit is. Costco is a good place to go.
I have a tumi carry on and roller, but with the monkeys running around at the airport, I leave it at home unless I'm flyin myself where I know it won't get thrown across a Tarmac.
I tie a humungous red bow to it that way I know it's mine on the carousel.
Lets see what else....
Where u going in Europe?

Don't get super nice shit. You'll just be sad when the baggage handlers fuck it up.
Hartmann or Tumi is as nice as I go anymore. Hartmann is great cause it's fucking tough as nails and also pretty understated.

This for sure. Beyond Costco, check out Marshall's and TJMaxx. They usually have fairly good luggage for cheap.

If you can go for a non-black. It makes it easier to spot in baggage claim. If you do go black find some colorful gaffers tape and mark it for the same reason.

Agreed. I spent a few months casually checking Marshalls, Target, TJ Maxx, Steinmart. Then I god a nice superlight Samsonite roller built very similar to the Swissgear bags for about $75. My carryon bag is always my backpack.
Be sure to check the international size rules for several airlines before you buy your bag so you don't go oversize. International flights are not real generous on size and weight.
I'd be happy if it came in some color/pattern so ugly it gives people a nosebleed. The uglier and more fluorescent the better. I want luggage so ugly that babies cry when they see it.

Samsonite
Wrap handles in rainbow tape, obnoxious style. Something easy to spot at luggage claim.
Our samsonite fit through all international gates, rolled well, zippers all still work, and they seemed organized in a logical manner. Big roller blade wheels ftw. Wussy spinning wheels blow as they get stuck in every thing.

The new-ish Samsonite with the 4 casters instead of the 2 rollerblade wheels is the only way to fly (pun absolutely intended!) TJMaxx always has a good selection. I bought my mom a complete 3-piece set, and it worked so well for her, I got myself a large for the occasional trip. They're solid enough, and by getting them from TJMaxx, they're cheap enough that if they get wrecked, you're not crying into your beer.

I use a rimowa case, it's fairly expensive but I fly a lot and it sure takes a beating.

I got a Heys set at costco a while back and it's pretty awesome. It's nice to have the ones that have the 4 swivelling wheels on the bottom so you can just push it along as your waiting in a line, as opposed to just the two wheels where you're dragging it.

I just picked up a Samsonite 4 wheel roller for 80 bucks... I'll let you guys know how it holds up.
Just a side note/gripe... Why the fuck don't manufactures put the size of the bags on the label? Both the airlines I'll be flying use the same formula to determine the bag size, L+W+H. You'd think that samsonite etc would put this on the bags label.

For international travel, you should be good with a 27" suitcase and 20" carry-on. I bought the Victorinox 27" expandable on black friday from e-bags and the 20" expandable Tumi carry-on at an outlet mall. They are both really light and have a lot of storage capacity. That being said, the Victorinox doesn't hold up as well as Tumi or Hartmann. I also have a Hartmann personal item size. I fly 3-4 times a year.
