Thought This is cool to share. “Pro” footage from our show

Don’t think you NEED twitch. But it was streamed on Twitch and seems to work best. But hit the link and see if it works. I think I have it set at the start but basically should be around 5 minute mark. It’s the entire show which had a female Sabbath band and then Maiden tribute after. We don’t open much these days but start time was 8pm and we still got an hour , plus it’s one of my fave venues in the Chicago. I’m the dude with the yellow Strat!! Pretty hammered, but I think that only made my solos a little extra trashy! Perfect!! If you ask me. Haha. and can see why I have a neck problems. Lol. But anyway, I think it’s cool to have some footage like this with the audio from the board

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2018508062

Let’s see if I can do this right. So my other guitar player d/l and clipped it only to our set and loaded in on Facebook.

If that doesn’t work to embed, here’s the link. Pretty sure he made it public if that’s easier than twitch

Sounds great! I love seeing the Bumblebee used for evil \m/ I assume you took your tools to it and that's how floyd and locking nut came to be? Or is it a different strat?

Hah yeah. I love the yellow Strat. And I wanted to keep the Strat bridge on there since I went Thru and and got better bent steel saddles. I put locking tuners and brass nut… And it would hold tune really good. And sounded great. But to really pull slayer off, cause I wanted to use it live.. I needed the Floyd and locking nut. And then eventually I just went single humbucker. Even tho I liked the HSS just fine. Also I refretted it with SS frets. And during that time o took the opportunity to flatten the upper frets a touch so I wouldn’t fret out with that 9.5 radius. So I made it a 9.5 to 12 compound radius. So short answer. Lol, Yea I hacked it up. And I still love it, would have liked to keep it stock, but it’s one of my favorite guitars. And it loves stage lights like I thought it would!

That's awesome. Yeah; the yellow looks GREAT under lighting! What pickup did you land on? I am running just the single stock humbucker in mine. Though not for the same type of material

So for awhile I was dead set with the original Blackout! Who would have thought. But because I’m always tinkering, that was when I had 16 ohm Evh Celestions in my cab. And yep I had the 8 ohm originally. Pretty big difference but I decided to go back to the 8 ohm in my main cab and put the 16 ohm ones in my PV 5150 cab X pattern with the Stock Sheffield’s. Actually what I used here!

Anyway, once I went back to the 8 ohms I wasn’t feeling the blackout anymore. And I sold off the Satchur8 that I used for awhile before the active… And I ended up with the Dean Michael Schenker! Had that laying around and just had a gut feeling. I tried it against a few others I had laying around and it was the clear winner. Killer pickup for the $70 or whatver they are out there. Altho I don’t think Dean is even making pickups anymore. But there seems to be plenty left … Maybe. Lol

Nice! DiMarzio had pickups for sale on Black Friday and it was hard to not grab one of those Satchur8!

It worked great for me! Honestly that stands as one of the best “newer” Dimarzios I’ve tried in awhile. And you know I try a lot! Haha. But the extra power along with a bit bolder low, low mid voicing compared to other Satch pickups, like the Fred and PAF pro, makes it killer for heavy rhythms but it still has all those harmonics and other lead friendly attributes. Especially now with th alnico 8 adding the sustain

I'll have one at some point. I wished there was a Tele in this same finish. It would have been mine without thinking twice. I did look around at other strats for backup purposes but for probably no good reason; the radius differences always kinda put me off. However valid that is or isn't?

Fucking crushing as always dude. The Fiddy is a raging beast of an amp. Is your other guitarist dead set on the L6? He's kinda getting buried lol

Cool to see y'all playing bigger rooms that look pretty packed!

Wow cool, I actually spend quite a bit of time on twitch. apart from gaming streams, I like to hang out in music streams as well. It's a decent platform for that.

Thanks. Yeah this crowd was solid 250ish I’d guess. Maybe more. Tough to see how many were upstairs. Since we were first it took 15 min for them to sorta “pack in” a bit but by the end it was a good crowd. We usually average 200 give or take. Which is fine. That’s a good number to play to. We’ve actually played to 1000 early on which was crazy, and we are playing some bigger venues in out of state coming up. And with the guarentee we got, lol, they better be hoping for 500-600! Haha

Anyway as far as that line 6. On one hand I don’t like that he uses it on the other yes I bury him for rhythms, which just being totally honest I’m a much tighter and aggressive rhythm player. He hits the parts but if I had my choice in the mix I’d prefer to be a little louder there so it works. His solos come thru just fine. Not a fan of the tone but the l6 comes thru for his leads plenty.

Which is ALsO why he gets buried on his rhythms at times. He’s been very stubborn about how much he volume boosts his leads. It’s WAY too much. It can blow my head off on stage at times. We’ve all said he’s too loud but he just doesn’t lower it. And I’ve told em, the side effect is they will turn you down overall so now your rhythms will be quiet. And yknow how that goes when people either don’t think you are telling the truth or the just don’t care. But on this show, the lady who runs sound is honestly one of the best around. She’s really good. So we sound check and as soon as we are done she says “Stage left(him) your lead volume is WAY too much” hahah. So maybe now he’ll listen. But I actually think he may have turned it down a touch. But still I think she eventually had to turn him down overall too cause I did notice he started disappearing later on. Except for his solos, so whatver. he’s been told 1000x by me. At this point, I’m really at Fuck him. Get lost.

Haha that may have come across wrong. I meant then GET LOST in the mix! Haha. He’s a good dude and fits a role within this . But I tried to get him the right advice and not simply “turn down “. I’m seriously a team player when it comes to volume and band mix. I want it all sounding great! I did offer to let him use the XXX too just to have that mix. But he loves that line 6 stuff. I think he likes the foot controller thing. But really all he needs is the delay and volume boost for his leads…

I catch your drift!

Despite the spongeboob shitpants rhythm tone, dude is a killer player and has the right look/stage presence for your band.

The Line 6 in the video looks like a DT50? That's mostly a tube amp, although there is some modeling mixed in the preamp gain circuit.
But the input stage is tube driven and the power section is 2 EL34s and was designed by Bogner.

It seems like he's dialing it weirdly. But the amp is capable of decent tones and it should sit in a mix fine, if dialed in properly.

The 5150 is burying it in the mix and it IS a much better amp overall but he should be able to dial it in a bit better.

It's hard to tell some people these things though, I had the same issue the last time I was in 2 guitar band. The other player kept getting buried in the mix every time.
I was able to convince him to let me dial a rhythm tone once, and we were able to hear him just fine on that show. The next show, he was back to his old settings, and at that point I just gave up

When you're dealing with pure modeling, it gets buried no matter what, but on an amp like the DT50 is mostly user error, because there's definitely enough of an analog path there to keep the amp present in the mix.

He’s the guy who knows the leads as “note for note” as possible. Which is fine if that’s how he wants to roll and it adds more of that album version sound. A few of the solos I know note for note, but when they were just going off, I’m just going off. I’m not learning how THEY went off. That sorta defeats the purpose to me…

It’s actually the bass players head as the his original Flextone 2 broke down! Haha. Now I had to dial in sumthin for that cause it was terrible. It actually was decent once I got my paws on it. Since he’s had this one I haven’t had a chance to dial it in. He’s actually open to that aspect. He even asked me one time if we can get his shit dialed better, just haven’t remembered to help. The singer made this patch and I knew straight away it wasn’t that good. Altho I think he’s twiddled some settings at least

MacaroniSalad wrote:Sounds great! More Hammered = More Hanneman, so its all good

Exactly! Funny story. When I first met the drummer and the guitarist he was originally working with, I brought a bottle of tequila. But it was more of a standard bottle so it could be confused for wine perhaps. And I came from a band where practice also meant party. Pretty much everytime. Lol. Anyway, I’m just swigging from the bottle all night. The one guitarist drank a beer or 2. So by tthe end of the night he’s like “You drank half your wine” lol. I’m like wine?? Cmon it’s tequila. And they were in shock. Hahah. I’m like i thought this was Slayer we were covering?!” I’ll be honest sometimes I’ve been going way too hard but I never actually fuck up my playing. I may fall down, but never really make a mess of things. But I e been trying to be less blotto’d mainly for my liver/health! But this show I decided time was right again. :D

Sounds great and your overall show looks like great fun!

My first thought before watching the video was "How many Slayer songs do you need to know to play a full 60 minute set?"

Good question… haha. I actually don’t know the exact. But I could count this I suppose! Haha. I’d guess 13-14. Sometimes tho we get the 90 minute headline slot, which I think we play 19-20 for that, and those are tough shows to pull off. . Not so much for me or the rest but it’s tough to keep the crowd energized for 90. After all we still aren’t the REAL thing ffs! Hah. So my perfect set is 75 min. We can hold ‘em for 75 no problem. Honestly I like 60 too. They usually want a bit more so always best to leave stage with em wanting a bit more.
