But I seriously do this before I go and record shit that I kinda care about..
SO this for the most part is just a Chug test.. Ugh.. I almost hate saying the word.. Fucking chug.. Even got guys om youtube drinking a beer while playing the low E, some lame shit out there related to chug and this is no different!! haha But while IM really not a chug player, I of course use em from time to time.. And they are sorta fun to hear..
So Used 3 amps. Isa there a chug king of the 3?? Eh.. Maybe but they all do it pretty good..
So the cab is the 4x12 I made mic'ing and Evh celestion with an EV N/D 468.. Such a great mic. Definitely end up being my favorite for this speaker..
I didn't move mics or change speakers of course.
So as a referece, I used Scott Ians Settings for his EVH el34 on the Blue Channel.. Its the least gain by far but as he even says its just about that Bark and growl.. Its a very punchy tone.. Exoecially with some volume.. I even Used a guitar with the JB.. And I put all 5 "takes" on one clip.
SOo it goes https://app.box.com/s/0je39e6t9yaew8xs1k921fxxxmgqf9xr
EVH Blue with JB 0:00-0:50
EVH Red with EMG Super 77 0:51-1:41
PV 6505 Red channel boost with Precision Dr 1:42-2:33
PV XXX Crunch channel boost with Precision Dr 2:34-3:24
PV XXXUltra Chan Precision DR 3:25- end
I really think its best heard in the mix cause the do relate to the bass differently. Which is also a big part of a good Chug, but heres a little clip of just the guitar buss..
EVH Blue 0-0:14
EVH Red: 0:14-0:28
PV 6505 Red 0:28-0:42
PVXXXCrunvch 0:42-0:56
PV XXX Ultra 0:57- end

This is cool! I like them in this order, not that it matters because they all sound great. You could legit flip a coin and be good to go with any of them haha. Splitting hairs...
EVH red - Attack, weight, gain. Love it. It FEELS heavy when you listen to it, if that makes any sense. One of the reasons I love the red channel.
6505 - This sounds super familiar and really great. Tight, aggressive. Has that Peavey 6505 class sound.
XXX ultra - Tight and brutal, I like the scoopiness. Tough call between this and crunch, but ultimately I think this one wins out by a slight margin for me.
XXX crunch
EVH blue - Really cool tone. The attack and punch is there, but I definitely would want more gain here.

Nice. Fair conclusions! I’d prolly leave towards the Evh Red. If I was truly just doing down picking chugging hardcore riffs the XXX might find it’s way in there as well. The 6505 is perhaps the most abrasive and “brutal”. I think it needs more aggressive riffs and music to be at its best. And the Evh blue is pretty classic and would be good for 80s thrash. In the room, with some decent volume, it’s chugs are a legit guy punch. So I know why Scott Ian loves it for their stuff

Yeah, the blue channel makes a lot of sense coming from Scott Ian. I've seen Anthrax live a few times since they were touring with Slayer, and he was using these amps. Great tone. Too bad I can't say the same for the vocals haha.

EVH red for me followed by EVH blue. The red is so balanced sounding, the mids and low end are damn near perfect.
Sittin' in dat mix!
