It might be shitty, but at the end of the day, bands choose to have their music on their, or made the agreement with their label to have the rights to have the songs on there
The 1000 streams a month is pretty bullshit, but the reasoning is somewhat sound as to why. I feel like theres gotta be a better way to shut down those gaming the system like that though. It might make a local hack like me indignant that I may not be getting a payout at all anymore, but I'm also not really going to cry too hard over not making $30 a year off spotify anymore
I think people need to shit on Tidal more. Any time the spotify payout conversation comes up tidal has great free advertisement of people saying "tidal pays artists better! use that instead" well fuck you tidal. .003 cents per stream instead of .0003 cents per stream. Woo-fucking-hoo

Streaming is one of the reasons Capitol Records shut down their recording studio and were forced to sell their landmark building in Hollywood.
With ZERO control over their inventory, the big labels are eating dirt.
Funny how, the labels lied to their artists about vinyl and cd sales volumes and now, the streaming services are lying to the labels about streaming numbers!
