Synergy 2CP module vs Mesa Mark VII

Basically what it says. Just bouncing between the 2. I also got the UL module, but I am not digging that at all, so I will likely be sending that back in exchange for another one...either a Herbert or 6505.

Ultimately, the Mesa still sounds better, here, I think. More modern, tighter low end, juicier and livelier. The module, though, is no slouch, and is pretty damn close. Low end isn't nearly as tight, which isn't a bad thing. Great, great option for less than you can buy most mark series amps for these days.

Ive been loving my IICP with a boost in front. It gives it a little more saturation and cuts the bass a bit more to make it tighter. I remember I liked the Studio Preamp and Mark III I had years ago the same way.

What don't you like about the UL? I will be getting one next month.

Where do you have the Sag knob set on the Syn1?

It feels great to play. I’ve never played an actual 2c+, so I can’t say how much of that elasticity it has, but the marks all have some degree of it, and this is no exception.

The UL seems super undefined in the low end and it doesn’t have much saturation.

I have the sag knob all the way down.

The 7 sounds much better here.

Does the 2CP sound any better through a different power amp?

I think they all sound better through the PA50 vs the Mesa power section. The VII is obviously better, but the 2cp is different too. The VII is like the ultra modern mark series.

Yeah the UL is pretty much like a recto with mark controls. I turned down the bass on the control and dialed them in as needed in the graphic eq. Every time I hear people say they are thin I know they haven't played one.

But the real one is just slightly undergained to do modern metal without a boost. If the module is like mine after 3 oclock or so it just got more compressed.

Yeah, I didn't hear anything thin about it. And I don't know if I would say slightly, but for me it's like way undergained haha.

Both sounded great to me. The IICP got closer when you put them through the Mesa EQ but the Mesa is still punchier overall

That's fair, I haven't tried the module. The Deliverence sounds close to the real thing but Fryettes in general are nowhere near the gain of a 6505 or mark series amp.

I have doubts you will like the Diezel stuff. It's not quite as saturated as some of the other amps out there.

That’s good to know. Decided to exchange it for a 6505 module. Makes the most sense for me for now.

I got to play the UL module for a bit today. I liked it. It is not as extreme as the usual sounds I use, but using my guitar with Fishman Moderns, or a Boost with other guitars it got pretty heavy. However, it was also different enough to be different than the others I have so far. It was almost like a Mark series with a more Marshall base to it.

That being said, I still want to try the 6505 and Powerball also.

I am curious to hear if the 6505 has a fat chunky low end. Maybe it is the power amp I am using, but so far I find all the Synergy modules tighter than their comparable amps.

Yeah, killer tones on both, pretty much sounds like Mark II vs IV to me. Both are amazing with the VII sounding more modern.
