https://www.gibson.com/en-US/Electric-G ... XyGkLfzl8gMy friend said it best. They look like starter pack pieces of shit but for $1500

Yeah… they tried

Would much rather have a tribute for $300 less. Or tribute special for $500 less
Matching headstock cool on paper but the finishes suck

I said the exact same thing about the tribute.

Does this mean they’re killing the tribute line?

That would be a bummer, killer value and definitely a sleeper. Then again, I’m not in the market for that sort of thing so I guess I don’t care either way

yes this sucks. Honestly this whole Les Paul Lite/Less Paul idea should be discarded completely. Every time they've done it, it sucked and it didn't sell. Even when they do it right, it's wrong.

Gibson needs to just stick to what they do best and ignore the whiny little bitches that are constantly moaning about them never doing anything different. Who either way would never be customers anyway
I do like what they did with the “new” finishes in the modern series they launched a bit back. Those look great imo

Who are these aimed at?!
$1500 is out of beginner range and people spending that much want a much better guitar.
Is this how they liquidate their excess wood that was leftover from making their real guitars? Billy, now that you mention it, it. does seem this is cyclical/fishy
They just got crazy greedy with their scraps this time

They've been doing the thin Les Pauls on/off since 1988.
It's never worked and it never will. Literally no one wants a thin, carved top LP.

i think i saw a headline the other day scrolling that said "gibsons old management lost focus" or something along those lines, these to me though id still put in the unfocused category lol

I played one. It was great. Healthy with the 490s. Light as a feather. All they need to do is get one in the hands of Taylor Swift and it’s over. Personally I’d rather have a Jr. but these could make a great beater, soon as they turn up used for 1/2 off. I’ve read the tribbys are discontinued. Those are nice beaters too.

Idk, I like what Gibson’s current management is doing. Every new Gibson I've played recently has been great and I even think the prices for their USA production line are more than fair.
They also did well with the Epiphone and Kramer brands. And stopped with the non-guitar related, home audio nonsense.
This one is a flop, without a doubt, but the new management has been doing well overall IMHO.
I'd buy a new Gibson today without any issues, just not this one

Yeah I’m not a fan either. I’m sure they play great but I don’t see these lasting long. I’d rather go for a Tribute or spend a bit more and get a Studio (smokehouse burst is still sexy). I guess my thought process has been if you want a Les Paul, get a Les Paul and get it because you know what it is and are fine with it. If you want something smaller or thinner but still Gibson, get an SG. Aside from the very different look, they don’t give up a whole lot to a Les Paul in the tone department.

Yeah I agree. And Gibson already have a well-established thinner Les Paul line, which is the Junior/Special. Those are widely accepted and well regarded. Hell, even the single cutaway Melody Makers have a following.
Not sure what they're trying to accomplish with re-releasing this model every 10-15 years, since it fails every time.

I think I’d dislike it less if it had trapezoid inlays. I mean I wouldn’t like it much more but I think that would help it look a little better.
I showed it to my wife and she’s like “I don’t know it’s kind of cute.” Clearly we are not the target demographic on this lol.

I don't think I would mind the thickness of the body if it had the classic black headstock, trapezoid markers, and some of the more classic colors like black and wine red. For me, it's the color-matched headstock and the stupid-looking dots that make this look cheap.

The tribute line has been discontinued.
This is now the cheapest Les Paul model at $1499. It looks like the Studio line has been cut way back too.
This tells me the core line is about to see a big price increase. The Classic is still $2199 at the moment and there's no way it's going to stay there if these Modern Lite pieces of shit are $1499.
Lots of rumors floating that the Tribute, Studio and Classic are being discontinued. I guess we'll see, but these Modern Lites are not good signs for things to come.
idk why I care, because I'm hardly in the market for a new Gibson.

I’m with you there. I think my LP collection has peaked. From Gibson I have my 94 Studio (first ever guitar too), my 85 Standard with Shaws and my 04 R7 with Mules. I also have my Heritage H-157 (LPC Equivalent) and H-150 Special. They all play great and sound great and cover just about every base of LP tones I could ever want. I’m the last person that needs a new Gibson Les Paul.

THESE are $1500? Jesus. I gave far less than that for my Studio in 2020. Batshit.

They tried to make some nicer ones in the past. This is the first one, the 1988 Custom Lite:

This one had all the Custom appointments. They even had Neal Schon endorsing it and playing it for a while, at peak Journey. Didn't matter, it failed it miserably. No one wants these things. This is like their 4th run at this model.
