iPotato vid: Quick test with H90 Micro Pitch (VH content)

Post by Telephant »

Going for the VH-Balance tone here. Micro Pitch set to -9 and +9, stereo delay at 398ms and 798ms, obviously collapsed to mono. Both fx are running parallel. Would be cooler in W/D/W but as my Dad says close enough for gov’t work. :D

Side note: I’m playing out less than in my 20’s but my rig is far more pro. The pedalboard inputs and cable loom have made my life so much easier.

Yeah man!!!! Sounds great!!! I wasn't crazy about the Micropitch pedal, but it seems like the H90 does it way better!!!

I listened to the track right after listening to your clip and the effects were dead on accurate. EVHs amp tone is a bit different since he was using the PV but overall this is super close. Great playing as usual!!
Guitars:
'78 Les Paul Pro / '89 SG Special/ '04 Gibson Les Paul Classic 3 pickup / Jackson Star/ Endres Tele / Fernandes Rhoads/ ''74 Hohner MIJ strat/ 2 Partscasters

Amps:
Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol

Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.

Fuck me thst sounds good, I’d say you have the tone as nailed as could be

Just looked up what a micro pitch is, never even heard of it shows how clueless I am

Thanks dude! Man that chorus riff is so fucking awkward for me to play. It’s not exactly right, and hell I still don’t have the verse chug rhythm correct. He’s got an accent in there that I haven’t quite nailed. Then again EVH’s rhythm playing is in a class of its own. I would have played along with it but he’s in standard tuning (with drop d) and I’m in D standard.

I’m heavily debating picking up a 5150/6505 to get me even closer but SLO not a bad approximation.

Hah when I was younger I thought that Balance tone was a chorus, but I also ignored all this stuff when I was a vintage snob. The Micro Pitch is super addicting. It’s everything you want from a chorus but nothing you don’t. Gives you the chorus shimmer without the phasing.

BTW Billy I think you would find the H90 easy to use. I found the software really intuitive and easy to navigate. Hell you can copy/paste programs (patches) wherever you want. And the actual interface is far more intuitive than the SDE3000.

I’ve programmed hot switches on my normal verb/delay programs to simultaneously give me a 3db boost and increase delay time from 420ms to 520ms for leads.

Only thing missing is a bluetooth app like the H9 but apparently that’s in the works so should soon be able to tweak from a phone or ipad.

Dude, that sounds awesome!!!

Also, that's one of my all time favorite VH tunes to play. I did a playalong with my Snax like 10 years ago, and this thread made me dig it up. Your playing it tighter than I did for sure. Sick job, sir.

I can't embed on here because I'm dumb.

Gat damn this is from a decade ago! I’m def not playing it any tighter than you.

You put your own kinda metal influence on it with downstroke picking which is cool! What were you using for this tone back then? :hmm:

Bolded, above. :D

Thanks man! I just did my best to learn it by ear and play it the way I could lol.

I am kinda retarded. I think it’s cool you Loopified it.

I did not learn it by ear, but I did watch 50 dudes all play it slightly different. :D Shane sent me an old vid of Ed playing it at NAMM and I worked off that. A few months ago Andy Wood posted a vid of him playing it while demoing the SDE-3000 EVH that was helpful too.

Oh my that sounds good! Playing is tight too. Those riffs dude came up with are just dumb! 90s EVH tone is very specific but I love it.
