Epi JC Wino or PRS SE DGT
Have the "I need another guitar" itch. Have been watching the new PRS SE's and flip flopped on the 594 or DGT. The DGT has bigger frets so leaning that way. Then an Epi Wino pops up on CL in my hood. Have always wanted a LPC, but not $5,000 kind of want.
What to do what to do. Just looking for something else to keep around as beater and couch picker.

Re: Epi JC Wino or PRS SE DGT
Aside from some of the semi hollows, I think generally speaking I’d take an SE over an epi. Also, I may be mistaken but I’m pretty sure the DGT se has the actual core DGT pickups? Which PRs doesn’t even sell stand alone so I’d say that’s a plus

Re: Epi JC Wino or PRS SE DGT
I would lean toward the DGT, based on those choices. Specifically, the goldtop with dots on the fretboard. I like!
The new Epi's are really good instruments. Aside from pickups, I think some of the Epi models are close in quality to the base model Gibsons. Epi is killing it these days, IMO. However, they still say Epiphone on the headstock, which still bothers me.
I played a couple of the 594 SE's and I wasn't really thrilled about them. The ones I played were heavy AF and the necks were a little too chunky for me. They were very nice guitars but failed to move the needle on my whelm level in an over or under direction.

I’m a huge Cantrell fan but I’d go PRS in this case. The DGT SEs have gotten great reviews and although the pickups aren’t Core, there highly regarded.

^^^ yes

The PRS SE DGT would be my choice between these 2. Every SE I've played so far has been really good.

The DGT necks are suppose to be slightly different than the regular SE Wide Thin necks. Does anyone know the difference?

There is a review of the DGT on Youtube that gives specs on neck width, depth, and profile on the DGT SE. Search phillip mcknight prs se dgt in Youtube and it should pull up.
In short, chunky but not quite 59 chunky.

I’m in the same camp with the boys about Epi. It’s unfair but here we are.
After looking at Spawn’s 594 I would lean that way but the DGT’s are pretty dope!

Looks like a pretty round neck in that video.
I read something about them adding more shoulder on the DGT models, so I was wondering if it was more D shaped than the other models. It looked pretty C shaped though. I like the fact the nut width is a bit narrower than their other models.

Looks like my local GC might have a few of the new SE's in the store. Going to check them out this afternoon. The older model that I tried at Sweetwater a year or so ago is what started me thinking about them. Didn't love the the poly finish, but it had bigger frets which I like.

Yeah the Epi on the headstock bothers me even though I did gig an Epi 30 years ago when I had no money. Great guitar though with a pickup swap.
Tried the SE594 and Custom 24 today. Didn't like either! Strings and setups sucked, but the neck was a touch narrower than what I am used to with my LP's and Charvel's. Back to hunting.
Maybe it was the string spacing on the PRS that felt odd. I don't know.

I owned an Epiphone a long time ago too.
That's why we know better.

The CU24 should be 1 11/16 nut width, which is wider like Gibson and Charvel.
That was why I was curious about the DGT, since it is narrower.

I tried an SE 594 a few months back, and while I thought it was about as good as an import can get, I didn’t really care for it. Compared to the S2 594 I just got the distance is night and day, even though they have the same pickups and hardware

The 20% off scale has the gap widened at the moment, but a used S2 594 isn’t a whole lot more than a new SE if you’re able to try some out

594s are also even shorter scale length than Les Paul’s and thst isn’t necessarily for everyone ymmv
