trying to make this DI stuff good...

I struggle with this shit, but my wife is WFH today, so in an effort to not be loud while she is in meetings, I've been fucking with the Mesa DI stuff.

WoS is pretty cool. I've had it installed for a while, but never really use it haha. Had to DL the newest version to get it running, but I had 4 cabs I guess. So the WoS clips are the Mesa cab, 57, with the mic 25% from center. I have some EQ doing hi/low pass filters at 80 and 8k, then a small dip around 5k or so. And a Pultec VST on the track just to add that little extra thing that it does.

The MIR clips are these Mirror IRs Endtime told me about a few months back. This is the one I have loaded into the Mesa's built in CabClone. I was struggling, but I found if I load NadIR on the guitar bus, it sounds mono...but if I put it on each individual track, the stereo image comes roaring in. Made a huge difference. I also removed the EQ I was using on the WoS for these...so no EQ on them at all, just the Pultex VST.

Also, there is a boosted version and unboosted version. Boost is a Mesa Gridslammer. I like this boost with this amp a lot, but I was fucking around and forgot it was on, and recorded the boosted clip first. I didn't dial in the amp for the boost or anything, so meh...but since I already had it tracked, I figured fuck it, I'll just post it anyway.

WoS boost: https://app.box.com/s/y4b1ogac1bcnhvnh6aoq3io8u8s54ys8
MIR boost: https://app.box.com/s/hj4b3b82f398n1jrpo9fsac9qkvn8wk4

Anyway, I don't know what I am looking for here. I don't even know if these are any good at this point haha. Gotta check in the car. I guess just lemme know your thoughts.

Here's a "reference" version, I guess. 2 SM57s on my Mesa OS, in front of a V30 and a Redback. The Redback is down about 6 db compared to the V30. Just bringing a little touch of it's flavor in there.

I don't have an issue with any of these clips. They all sound good to me, at least on my studio monitors. I'd need to check them in the car too lol
But so far so good. I don't think they're your best tones, but they're good.

I tend to prefer the unboosted tones, but I am not a metal player so my ears are tuned to a different type of tone, the boosted tones probably fit the style better.

They all sound good, I kinda like the MIR ones better and seems like the two mixed would be killer.
But the WOS is great too!

Which Mirror pack are those from? I haven't tried any of theirs... IRs can be such a rabbit hole, but I do like what I am hearing. (and I have WOS cabs already)

Thanks for checking it out. I am going to see about posting some absurd mic/speaker shoot out soon haha.

I bought the $2 single 2002 Mesa OS 412 pack lol. Sounded pretty good right away, and I really just needed 1 IR to load into the Mesa for live use. I am lucky that I can use mics basically any time I want, or within a few hrs of any time haha...so I haven't really delved TOO deep into the IR rabbit hole. Every time I think I am about to...like today...I am reminded how much better and more fun micing is.

I'm preferring the no-boost versions, and the MIR over WoS. Mic'd version is more betterererererererererer

*SMACK*

Um, better.

Great stuff. On my laptop speakers at work not a huge difference in WOS/MIR both sounded great. The miced cab was the best of course. WOS has a lot of functionality and is a really useful tool. Play with it a bit more.

They sound excellent for DI. Honestly, try a clip with a couple of these panned right, and a couple of the mic'ed versions panned left. I bet it sounds huge.
