DSL in a highly orchestrated, multi-layered monstrosity.

Had a bit of a breakthrough/breakdown late last week. Woke up with a dream/vision of a modern, yet odd, take on the old navy musical chanting style sea shanty. Yup. That happened.

I started with a simple riff and counterpoint, which you'll hear at the beginning of this clip. Over the course of the week I tapped back into the visions of my teenage self, "The Heavy Metal Orchestra."

And with my vast knowledge of show tunes, navy musicals, sea shanties, orchestration, soundtrack composition, and heavy metal: The space shanty has been born.

It's the year 2575 and the Brigadier is sailing out from the edge of the Galaxy. Welcome to the navy, men. Only question you gotta ask yourself is, are you a 'heave,' or are you a 'ho?'

Gear breakdown:
DSL1 - DSL20CR running into Mesa Widebody closed back 1x12 with a M160 mic on it.
DSL2 - DSL20CR through the combo speaker, a G12H30, i5 mic (used as an enhancement layer over the other DSL).
Laney Mini-stack Ironheart 4x3 - used as a brightener for the rhythm tracks.
Guitar was all my trusty JS32T King V with GFS Redactives Golds.

No pedals. Just TOANZ  .

Enjoy.

I dig it! DSL 20 sounds great too! Must have had it pretty loud, as the one I had only sounded like that when above 7 on the master.

Yeah, as good as those little beasts sound before they get cooking, they still have that Marshall bark that sets in around 7 and just gets better from there. I have volumes dimed here. Basically using the gain knob as the final determiner of actual volume. Which, with the gain around 9 o'clock, is still pretty loud in my little closet of a room.

:hi5: It gets the blood flowing.

Thanks, man. Appreciate the listen.

I'm getting ideas for automation to make the overlying harmonies and secondary layers sort of weave in and out of it. I'm imagining in a full song version each chorus would have a new element until you get that huge thing you have here at the finale.

When I sold mine, I had never had the master over 3 until the buyer dimed it. Almost cancelled the sale at that point but didn't. They really fill out the lows and lower mids with volume.

Actually that’s how the 100 watt DSLs are to a degree. That master needs to at least hit 3 to sound great.

It's amazing the musical variety we have on this forum. This was completely unexpected and really cool.
The amp sounds great but you know how I feel about DSLs

Thanks, man. Once you get those volumes up, it's tough to beat.

Seriously disturbed by the amount of verses (one per character apparently) I've had percolating through my brain.

BTW, never work on a repitious song, then drive over seven hundred miles in a "no music" situation. Good fuck, I couldn't get it to stop!

But? It really could be a musical if I could find the voice talent.
