So I had the Bluguitar Mercury for a while. I really like the amp as a portable rig that sounds legit.
This weekend, a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to trade my Mercury for his Iridium and I agreed. He really wanted the Mercury version and I figured I could use either version.
So long story shot I got this:
Really like the way this amp sounds. Maybe more than the Mercury. This one also does all the Marshall stuff well, but can also get close to some higher gain sounds I like, like ENGL or the 5153.
So yeah, that was a cool trade. I will probably use it on Friday's gig and I will post some videos here. The craziest part is that the pedalboard is the entire rig. Just add guitar, cab and go. It's not 100% like a tube amp (IMHO). It's close, but not exact. But it's still miles away from any modeling out there in terms of punch, weight, cut etc. For a fly rig or travel solution I don't think there is anything even remotely close. That said, I haven't tried the new BlackStar or Hughes and Kettner alternatives yet.

I'm still surprised you dig this. I really hated the one I tried.

Yeah I remember you mentioned that. I was surprised because you love the 900 mkIII and this amp can get really close to it. But at the end of the day, we all hear things differently, and amps react differently to different players/styles so it's all good.

I still have the Iridium that I picked up from you. Actually had a Mercury and Iridium at the same time for a bit. Your description is similar to my findings. The Iridium has just a touch of a more modern type of sound compared to the Mercury. Should break that thing back out! It was put away when I moved 6 months ago.

even if you're not gigging, it's just a great sounding amp. Great addition to any collection IMHO. Here's a good, in-depth metal demo of it:

I'm really tempted by the Mercury. The idiot in me is like "gotta get a Plexi" (or other expensive, semi-useless amp), but the rational human is like "This would be perfect, and actually give me options, instead of just having one thing"

You've been here long enough to know the answer is to get both.

Well sure, but which one first?
I’m inching ever closer to the Racto, which will be fun. I actually hope it shakes up my life a bit and sticks around. In particular I really like Rectos with Strats, and I just got a strat again last Monday.

Can't argue about Ractos. They're killer amps.
But hey get them all at the same time. That's the GGF way
