From studio to stage this A-Designs pre is meant for preamping DI and driving a power amp. It’s incredibly detailed and musical. Most bassist have be using their REDDI tube DI for years , some of yous may have one and that is an incredible piece, this while not tube is totally top shelf using custom Cinemag transformers and Baxandall eq. Its built in California not Russia as the name is misleading. Doh but holy moly is it ever beautiful sounding. This completes my mini rig. I also just scored a NOS Fender era SWR amplite 400 watt :D mini power amp. Into the MortaTen its just ridiculous.

It has a balanced line level out off the Cinemag and xlr. Its simple and stunning sound is plug and play. No excuses if it sounds bad it ain’t the gear.

Thanks Dude. Its a killer little setup. Probably the best I’ve ever put together. It sounds great with pedals too. Just really loving the honest sound. The instrument and no weird artifacts. But very musical, detailed and strong levels.

I used a REDDI in the studio and the sound on playback was fucking incredible.

Been thinking about buying one for years, but I don’t think it’d see enough use to justify the cost.

Most guys on Tb using it have pretty hi-fi rigs so no question using one live would work for them but with all the color in a vintage rig. Not sure. Probably best to mic it and forgetaboutit. I recall from my gigging days it was always a fight with the sound guy for both a mic and DI on the bass rig. As smart as it is to do they hated it. Some would outright refuse. But that’s the best way to capture bass. Both live and studio.

For me, DI plus mic is the gold standard, but I think that in a lot of venues there's enough stage wash that it makes the mic somewhat redundant.

My holy grail for bass tone is a triple blend of clean DI, overdriven tube amp mids, and distortion on the highs. I can get all three with a BDDI and mic'd SVT blend, but I can count the number of times that's happened on one hand.... so I take some solace that the stage is bleeding into FOH.
