I bought a POD

$80 for the bean and the FBV foot controller. Has all the M series FX so worth it for thst alone. However not the reason I bought it. My bands practice space situation is in flux and at one of our practice locations we are doing silent room aside from drums. The emulated output from my JVM has been proving almost unusable, so this is the fox for that.

Surprised how good it sounds running into my roadsters poweramp

Glad you found a fox for it :D

And yeah, honestly if I was going to get a modeler again,.80 bucks for a POD is a good plan since it's not THAT different from the newer units tbh.

Life is so cyclical.

Speaking of old modelers, I was going through my closet today and found one of those Behringer V-Amp 2 that I bought in the early 00's when I was teaching guitar.

Plugged it in and hey it sounds like a fine modeler :idk:

The worst part of those has to be the cab emulation. Turn that off and use modern IR's. I tried that with my old POD 2.0 and it made a big difference. You might be able to get usable tone out of it. I didn't really try too hard to see it's possible. I always hated that modeler so I didn't spent more than 5 minutes with it until I pulled the plug and shoved it back in the closet.

Lasse Lammert did that some years ago. Newer IRs are probably more developed than these, but it can definitely work. I played my POD XT pro through a power amp and cab, and it sounds perfectly decent. Not top notch, but very usable

Leon Todd made a video of the V-Amp I have here but haven't used since 2004or so  Actually sounded decent, I need to revisit it

Damn in like 2006 these things were all the rage. My buddy bought one because he read that Arsis recorded their album with it lol. It was terrible haha.

These things are always fucking garbage in my opinion; I can't understand why companies are still building amps with them.

I think that would've been the OG pod haha, the HD came out in 2010 or 11 believe. So slight improvement, but we aren't talking about earth shattering tones here. Cheap fix for a very specific purpose

I'll cut the JVM a -little- slack since it came out in 2006.. is what it is. That said I feel like newer stuff that uses IRs is a lot better, at least based on clips I've heard

These are fun little units taken for what they actually are. Spawn you ever consider something like a Suhr RLIR or Captor X for your amps? Might be the ticket.

Exactly.

since it came with the FBV I've also pondered the notion even bringing it out some day to like a 3hr brewery gig strictly as an FX unit with some weird and oddball patches dialed in. I've always liked the M series FX and think they still hold up great in 2023. I also have never brought a backup situation to a gig, but not the worst thing to have in the gig bag just in case an amp ever goes down live god forbid.

And yeah I've wanted a Captor X for a while. I just haven't felt compelled to spend that much on one, but I will definitely pick one up eventually.

You could also get a Palmer PDI 09, they are like 100 bucks and sound great.

Interesting, is the Speaker sim any good?

I was thinking about a regular Captor but decided if I was gonna go that route I'd like the whole 9 yards of the X with IRs, headphone capablility, etc.

Best I've found for live. I was going through my live videos the other day and couldn't tell which ones were mic'd and which were the Palmer. For studio they lack a bit of detail and complexity, but nothing you'd hear on a live setting.

I also have the Captor X and it's my main recording tool. I really like it in the studio. I don't use it live though, since the Palmer is way easier to use (it doesn't even require power) and has that immediacy that a full analog rig gives you.
