Damn. This sucks. Dude was awesome. Guess the reunion def isn't happening.
Wonder if Moz or Marr will go first.

This does suck. I am a late comer to The Smiths music. Didn't fully appreciate them back in the 80s but I grew to like their music (mostly because of Marrs' playing) later in life. RIP.

Damn. They’ve been on my list of bands I need to check out for as long as I can remember, guess I’ll do that tonight

RIP
I don't think I've ever listened to the smiths. Where should I start?

Just get “the sound of the smiths”. It’s like $12.99.
Their polished, jangly sound works fine for greatest hits collections. The lyrics of each song stand on their own. No need for complete albums to appreciate the genius of the individual members.
My fave songs: This charming man There is a light that never goes out Heaven knows I’m miserable now. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before Shoplifters of the world unite How soon is now The headmaster ritual Sheila take a bow Cemetery gates (phil anselmo loves smiths) Stretch out and wait Panic Bigmouth strikes again That joke isn’t funny anymore

They only released 4 albums(well 5 if you consider Hatful of Hollow) so it's not a lot of material to swift through. I'd start with the first album and go from there chronologically.
Or you can start with the bigger hits. This is a good example of Marr's playing with all the layers and atmospheric parts:

Btw, if you end up liking the smiths, you’ll also like morrissey’s solo work.

Sad news. The only member of the Smiths I've met. We opened for him, did a DJ set. Super nice, down to earth guy; had kind words for us and particularly our bassist, which I thought was super cool. If you listen close or hear his isolated tracks, dude was a badass funk bassist hiding out in a new wave band.

Way too young.
I've been going through a New Wave listening phase on my work commute. I have 5 compilation CDs in the car and the Smiths are all over them.

Thank you for this suggestion. I've only got one greatest hits album and I'm afraid to purchase any of their full albums in case the greatest hits pulled all the good songs already.
