Eh sorta bored, sorta did it for a meaning.. But which Speaker is better??

Same song, same amp, guitar, settings. mics, preamps..

So in my 4x12 I have Celstion Evh speakers on the top and some Mesa v30s on the bottom... I generally like the eve speakers over the v30.. But the cab sounds killer.. I think the Friedman cabs have that configuration, with 2 v30 on bottom and 2 greenback up top.. Like that I basically only hear the Evh celestions but its cool to ave the v30s for maybe some recording..

I used the shortest Slayer son I had ready to go.. Also as a quick side, I used my CAPI Mic pres. Which are basically copies of the 70s API pres.. They are really cool, but they do put the mids way more up front than the Neve Style which Ive been using most often lately.. But if you want aggression, the API stuff definitely has it.. Which makes em best suited for drums and stuff, but no doubt it has its place for heavy music..

Sounds badass man. I think the V30 is more Slayer-y but I actually like the EVH speaker better. Just a more modern sound and also clearer.

From doing this slayer thing, it’s easily their fastest song in the whole catalog..Suprised you think v30 is more Slayer’ish. To me I hear those “cardboard mids” that mesa v30s have. I didn’t do any post eq besides the lo and high filters on my channel strip plugin

You’re all over the place lately! Nothing against Rafs Trapped under ice clip, but it is so much mids I can’t get used to it. And you’re all about scooping and you said it’s his best clip ever!!! Lol. The v30 here has some of those same mids tho. I can pick them out super easy these days.

Agreed. I used to love V30's until I learned to dial in amps for Greenback based speakers.

Definitely prefer the EVH here. Both sound great, though.

I do prefer the evh in this one, I would like to hear that Jensen more though, that last one you did sounded amazing. Raf should try it too

I should try the Jensen? I was looking at the Electric Lightnings. Maybe I will still get some eventually, but I sold a bunch of cabs a couple weeks ago, and I'm down to 2, and don't see myself swapping the speakers any time soon.

The Jensen sounded good and then I tried it in a different mix and it wasn't there.. IT all depends on the mix and rest of the music..

I updated my EVH clip tho. I went with a different mic Combo.. So this isn't a tit for tat comparison cause the mics are different but it still shows the differences..

Sounds killer!!! I regret selling my SM7B. I need to buy another one.. such a versatile mic

Yeah I haven’t broken it out in awhile even tho I always had good results with it. I’m fact listening back in the car and at work that last clip was pretty much what I was looking for with the red channel and the Evh speakers. Need to make some notes of the mic position and settings, cause that’s honestly really close to what I hear in my head
