Morbid Angel / Apollo Theater roof collapse.

Post by EndTime »

I imagine many probably heard or seen a little sumthin about an old venue collapsed roof after extremely high winds/tornado hit, the Apollo Theater in Belvidere Illinois, that happened during the opening acts of the Morbid Angel show. Morbid has been one of my favorite bands for over 30 years. A show I was planning to go to but I mixed the dates up as they also were playing another venue equal distance to me the next night. I was planning to hit the Apollo but simply messed it up. But I had numerous buddies in the building and one friend, who I wasn’t close with but he came over a few times, and is best friends with some of my friends, was the one that got killed under the collapse. Dozens injured with numerous severe as well. But somehow, it had to be an honest, good natured dude who loved music and his family who was killed right next to his adult son. Tragic is almost an understatement. Hopefully it’s not going against rules to post the Gofundme his family is running. While their goal has been met, obviously this is a huge loss for them and I think it’s pretty amazing how the metal community across the globe has helped raise what they have so far. You can see by many posts how important he was to his people.

And there is videos and news coverage out there of the actual aftermath and even tough footage of his son talking about the moment he was buried under that old heavy structure roof..

Awful news man. I really feel for this guy’s friends and family.

His best buddy since their childhood days and I are always in contact via Facebook. We just seem to find the same things funny and whatnot, so i saw this outcome happen in real time as he kept saying he can’t get in touch with him… And the next couple hours just constant man, where you at? Anyone seen him?? Etc etc. they couldn’t get in touch with his kids who were there. And you think they prolly had their phones dropped or who knows… and then it turns out the way it did…

Yeah, I don’t think I would have been there this early, since it was just after first band, but I was def planning on going and I was supposed to meet this other dude out there. It was a sorta loose agreement, since we all do what we want but he said he was going and I said I’ll prolly hit Belvidere in the weeks prior. Then he texts me at 7:07pm I think and then just minutes later his 2nd text comes thru. I am a little alarmed at his lack of !!!!!! Exclamation points!!

Saw this on twitter moments after it happened.

It's amazing there was only 1 person killed seeing that footage. RIP to your friend.

This tour was cursed.

Dave from Revo fell and broke his wrist after tripping over a guitar cable.

Trey from Morbid apparently collapsed at one of the recent shows.

I'm sure they're glad this one is done and dusted.

Jeezus. I'd heard about Trey but not about Dave. WTF? Talk about a series of bad events.

Nah. Trey is fine. I’ve been following these dudes a long time. He was likely tripping on Acid that night and got “stuck” and flipped out a bi once he couldn’t get his bearings. Lol. I love that he’s still going hard. Yeah he drinks and smokes every night before every show. And the night he had his little episode , was basically them returning home. So they had the night off before their hometown show. I know I would have went out with a little bit more of a bang too! Haha. If ya get me. And knowing what i know about Trey that’s likely what happened. He went and played the next night which was the official end of the tour and he played fine. The dude is one of a kind, not only cause he still parties but he’s just out there in a way that still makes me smile and laugh. They had plenty of crazy things happen this tour but… Some of them like my buddy, was some freak of nature shit. I went the to the rescheduled night a few days later and they all played great. I enjoyed it

So would you say if Dinebag we're still alive, that this could be what we'd be looking at?

Nah, Trey was always off the wall. And honestly, He had a couple little mishaps this tour but played every show except a song and the one night he was blotto’d pretty early, so almost the entire night. Lol. So one bad show really on the entire tour. . I’m glad someone out there is still doing it that way! Haha.

Dimebag was always more “normal” compared to Trey and likely would just be getting enough to keep him going.
