You can't go wrong with a Focusrite.
However, the Universal Audio Volt is excellent and it has a compressor on each channel. Billy just got one.
Having a compressor on each channel is a truly great idea. A compressor is the most useful fx to use before hitting the A/D converter.

Avid just released the MBOX Studio and it's pretty impressive.

Universal Audio also makes A/D converters with 8 channels for the LUNA DAW software. I may eventually switch from Pro Tools to Luna.
