So when I moved out of L.A. I had a plan to save money aggressively from renting my L.A. home (which is paid off) and putting that money aside. The idea was to get to the point where I no longer needed to work so I could focus on doing shit that I actually enjoy. That was in 2016 and 6 years later that time has come. I have been able to put a considerably amount of money aside over the past six years and I still have the income from the rental property coming every month. So between the 2 I can tell my job to fuck off without any fear... Honestly, the last thing that was holding me up was health insurance but Kimmi is now getting health insurance through her work and add me to her plan and Brandon has her own insurance too so we're all set.

So anyway, this Friday I will be putting in my 2 weeks notice at my job. I was hired to teach guitar at a music school here 3 hours a day twice a week, just to say I still have a job, I enjoy teaching and filing taxes as a music teacher allows me to write off gear purchases But other than that I plan to dedicate my time to playing music and chilling out for the foreseeable future.
Maybe at some point I will find a job doing something I actually like or even volunteering or whatever. But I am beyond burned out from the corporate environment and want to put an end to that part of my life. I am not getting any younger and it would completely suck to look at my life 10-20 years from now and realize I spent most of it doing this miserable fucking job lol


So anyway, I am a bit scared about it since it is a big change but very excited on the other hand. Let's see what happens lol

Here's to you finding something awesome you actually enjoy doing. I totally get being burnt on the corporate merry-go-round. I just got a promotion with a considerable raise in the last few months, and I'm still just sick of the utter bullshit.

Even though I still officially "work", I feel retired. Not having to answer to some asshole all the time is the most liberating thing that's ever happened in my life. I didn't realize how fucking beholden to them I had let myself become. Asking 'permission' to go to one of my kid's school function? Pffffffttttt fuck that. That increased autonomy is something I will never give up again. I hope you enjoy the same!

exactly right. well...my boss is not really an asshole, my problem is with the corporate environment as a whole ... I put up with it long enough because I raised my kid alone etc.. but I'm completely burned out.

Congrats Billy and you'll do fine. I've been out of the work force since last November and it gets easier after the first month.

You'll probably find yourself locking down the spending a bit till you realize you'll be a-okay.

Nice Billy! Congrats on setting a plan, sticking to it, and seeing the fruits of it! I have a similar one, but a couple of detours through jobs I've really enjoyed have shifted the goal posts a bit.
