Well… we bought motorcycles… UPDATE!

For 20 years I wanted a bike and the Mrs always said, “you’ll kill yourself!”

Then out of the blue about 6 months ago, she was like, “hey… you still want bikes?”

I rode off and on through my teens (dirt bikes) and then my early 20’s more street bike action. She’s only ever been on the back, a handful of times at that.

We signed up for the New Rider classes at a Harley dealer here which will get you your endorsement provided you pass. A good refresher for me for sure and good for her as well. She’s driven manual transmission for years so gets the whole clutch concept.

Anywho, I ordered this guy. An Indian Scout Bobber 20

Image

She ordered a standard Scout… because it’s pretty…

Image

They should be built and shipped by the beginning of June.

As bad as GAS is for gear… it’s worse for bikes! So far I’ve picked 6 custom seats, 4 different exhausts… it’s maddening!

Welcome to the fold. Enjoy chrome shopping, swapping handlebars, getting new footrests, new seats, new racks, replacing all of them twenty times and still not being happy! :thu:

Honestly, once I got mine the only real upgrades were a new set-back neck extension and a travel rack and bag for the back, plus floorboards for the passenger position. I never quite got into the deep-dive into bling that some do. I suppose had I had to wait for it to be built I'd have driven myself crazy with it. Once you've got it and can ride it's not so hard to just go and forget all the bling-bling.

I tried getting my wife to take the riding course, but she had an anxiety attack the day of and couldn't leave the house. Even she was disappointed, but it is what it is.

Congrats, man. Hope you two enjoy.

Those are awesome!! I rode in my teens/early 20s too and I miss it sometimes. But I spent 20 years in LA, which is probably the worst place in the country to ride a bike. And DC is not any better. But NV - and especially Pahrump - has lots of open roads with minimal traffic, so pretty much ideal conditions for riding.

I've wanted to get a bike for years but have been told the same thing, I doubt my wife will come around like yours did.

Your bike looks fucking bad ass! Thats seriously perfect, love the murdered out look.

I don't want to go TOO crazy and am going to limit my first few purchases to a new seat, as the Scout Bobber seat just sucks Everyone hates it. Apparently, you give a hint of throttle and your ass is on the rear fender. Looking at this guy...

Also, some Dean Speed Crash Pegs & Sliders since I want drop protection, but HATE highway bars and some slip on's for the exhaust. Maybe about $1K at the start. From there I'll probably do a 20into-1 exhaust and tune but that'll be next year for sure.

Yeah for sure, Pahrump is great. We can ride to the Red Rock loop with little to no traffic, we can head out towards Beatty and Goldfield. All really nice, scenic rides with little to no traffic. I don't know how often, if ever I'd be riding into "Vegas Proper" to be honest.

Man I am a bit fan of the Indian stuff for sure. As a matter of fact, when they were started back up again back in Springfield, MA, it was a friend of a friends family that did the reboot. The Scout in particular has a pretty wide range of aftermarket options as well. Enough engine that I can't see growing out of it, and the Mrs has no interest in cross country riding on the back of anything bigger, which I am ok with! LOL!

Dude, you could have knocked me over with a feather when she suggested it. The fact that we made it to the dealership and paid for the build order... I was shocked and awed! LOL! And yeah, the bike I picked is like 90% perfect for me. They used to come with black mufflers and heat shields but with parts shortages AND Indian releasing a new model, all black parts have been diverted to those.

Noice man, my wife hates all my bikes and in 30+ years of knowing each other has never even gotten on the back for a ride around the block, she’s never going to come around.

Just traded a RK to my kid brother this morning for his Ness; I hated that bike and only bought it to leave at his place for space cruises because I ride bobbers and he’s always pissed we have to stop for gas every couple of hours. Part of the deal was that whenever I hit AR I’m riding that and he can’t bitch about stopping for the rest of our lives lol

Stoked for you, it’s gonna be cool as fuck for you to do together, HNBD man!

Yeah man! I love the bobber look. Not a full dresser/bagger guy at all. We’ve got great weather here 9 months a year so there’ll be daily riders for sure. Abs also, like you said, it’ll be great to do together. This will actually be the first real shared hobby for us… outside of “maritals”! Lol!

Where in AZ? If you ever make it to NV… just saying! lol!

Welcome to the Indian Motorcycle Family! I have the full sized scout. Fucking love it. Smoother than silk compared to my wife's HD sportster.

I was never in to Bikes but my wife grew up around them and she thought I would look hot on one. She was right

Took about 6 months of me driving around and having fun with others before she got the itch and got her own. She had to conquer some serious anxiety to go do her road course but I had her practicing in parking lots and I got to coach her mindset. She would try to drive off, get scared, put her feet down. After every reset she'd do heavy breaths and just feel bad for herself, etc. I said to her "I see you're still sitting on the bike and thinking. Stop. Go again. If you fail, do it again. Enough thinking and feeling bad. Go."

Shortly after she was riding :)

Oddly, I was looking at a Honda Fury and she wasn't sure what she wanted. Then she shoves her phone in my face and was like, "I like this..." It was a Scout. Honestly, I have always liked the Indian stuff, but is priced pretty similarly to HD and I never would have thought she'd be up for buying 2 LOL!

Kick ass man! Have you done anything to your Scout in terms of performance or just plain ol' aesthetic? I am leaning towards the Bassani 2-into-1 or the Two Brothers. It's funny, as we are driving through town now, she's like "this'll be nice on the bikes" or "I hope I am a good rider..."

I am still in shock she's so into it. We are going to buy helmets this weekend. We have a big cycle shop in Vegas so want to try a bunch of shit on. Looking at some of the Cards and Send stuff as well.

I bought a cheap slip on exhaust. It essentially straight pipes my exhaust  but it rumbles so fucking good. They are actually too loud and a long drive leaves my ears ringing. I'm going to buy a quieter one probably this week. I forgot I have $2500 of gambling earnings to play with. I'm going to put the stage 1 air filter on with accompanying tune. Nothing major yet. Oh and I bought a windshield which is just the best.

Nice! I was looking at the Radiant GP Shorty slip on's, but I may just bore out the first baffle on the stock exhaust for now.

What windshield did you go with? I kind of want one but not a huge one... I kind of have a specific look I don't want to ruin! LOL! Sometimes the fairings and windshields just look... not cool! LOL! I also don't want to remove the shroud from the headlight.

Oh... and...

Well some movement finally.

First, I got my motorcycle endorsement this weekend!

We also finally got shipping dates for our Indian’s.

Of COURSE hers will be done first! Lol.

Buying one of these this weekend for a “practice bike” and then we’ll either sell it or use for trade in on the new ones

Both are Honda 750’s. We took our classes on Harley Street 500’s.

Sucks that you have to wait for the build. My Indian used to have a really good stock but they're all orders now, too.

You guys don't fuck around! Bought temp bikes? awesome
