New in town and looking for a home for my father's guitar

Post by wabash1977 »

Hi All,
I'm just getting my bearings and checking out a few forums. Trying to figure out the values and where to try and rehome my dad's rosewood Martin and Electric Rickenbacker 12-string.

Hey there, welcome.

I can definitely help you with an estimate but I'd need more information like model, year made, condition etc... if you don't know, post some pictures of the guitars (preferably with the serial numbers) and we can help you identify them.

As for where to sell them, you will get more money selling to a private seller. Dealers will usually give you half of what you'd get from a private party (since they need to make a profit on it).

For private sales, reverb.com is probably the best site to sell guitars, with the largest consumer base. eBay is good too. Facebook has some guitar buy/sell groups you could try. With dealing on facebook and eBay look for the usual signs of scam. You can also try to sell locally on your Craigslist depending on where you live (some areas are dead for local sales).

A dealer sale you net you less money (like I said, about hald of a private sale, maybe a bit more if it's a truly rare/vintage guitar) but on the other hand, it's a LOT less headache. No shipping, no offers, no dealing with annoying buyers. Just take it to the store and they cut you a check on the spot.

What you should NOT do:

Don't sell it anywhere until you get an honest evaluation here or in other forums. Actually it's good to get multiple opinions. If you don't really know what you have and how muchthey're worth, people WILL try to take advantage of you.

Once you know how much they're worth you can make a decision between a private or dealer sale.

Also, NO pawn shops. Guaranteed they'll try to rip you off.
Guitars:
'78 Les Paul Pro / '89 SG Special/ '04 Gibson Les Paul Classic 3 pickup / Jackson Star/ Endres Tele / Fernandes Rhoads/ ''74 Hohner MIJ strat/ 2 Partscasters

Amps:
Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol

Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.
