Debt sucks.
I am fortunate to have gotten myself down to only my mortgage. The wife still has her student loans and a car loan.
Aside from that we're pretty much in the clear these days and its such a relief.

I have no debt and my credit card gets paid in full every month. Life is easier without debt.
Re: Debt
one thing that really helped me wrap it up was a loan from SoFi , they were the only fair lender I could find anywhere. Thanks SoFi ! Love you xxx

if you are debt free at 35 you will be a very rich man by retirement .
Only if you invest in your retirement (not you, specifically...)
It's amazing to me how many people pass up "free" money by not contributing the minimum amount needed to get their company's 401k match. Not everyone has the opportunity, but a surprising number that do ignore it. If a company will match your 3% savings each month (example), and you're not strapped to the point that saving 3% would be a hardship, then do it. For the average worker, no one but you is going to pay for your retirement. Save big - start early. Real-world economics needs to be a mandatory part of a standard education...
P.S. Congrats

Re: Debt
Congrats! I can't wait to get to that point.
Have paid down credit cards, but still a ways to go to get to zero balances. Just bought a vehicle last year that we are still paying on. The car I drive is paid off and as much as I want to buy myself a truck, I don't want to get more in debt to do so. Told my wife that we need to get serious about paying off debt, we've struggled with it our entire life together no matter how much money we have made.
Right now we spend so much money on ordering out food, we could wipe out the credit cards in no time if we would just stop with that.

That was my position years ago . I was able to knock out a few CC's at a very high % with the sofi loan , consolidate and pay it off . But we don't eat out or delivery much . Once a month maybe . I'm a better cook then 99% of the shit out there so we buy quality & healthy and I make the killer grubs at home.

Re: Debt
yeah I paid my Los Angeles house off in 2013. Been debt free since then. I had a mortgage for a while in LV but nothing major. The PA home was a cash purchase. Car is paid off and no credit card debt.
Never had a student loan because I went to college in Brazil (its free for citizens).
Only debt I have from time to time is medical. I have insurance but the deductible is high so sometimes I have to pay out of pocket. My credit cards are paid off pretty much every month, although I do leave a small balance (usually 50/card) because I had a few card companies that stopped reporting the account to bureaus when I ran a zero monthly balance and that actually hurt my credit a little. Such bullshit, imagine that. So now I leave a little there just to make sure it is actually being reported.

Re: Debt
It's a lovely feeling being debt free, fair play to you. I got myself clear a couple of years ago, a huge weight taken off. I've got 2 1/2 years left on my mortgage which will be 7 years early, so planning to take things much easier after that.
