Do you have have something odd that you've hacked to solve a problem in your rig. I've got a few and some are ridiculous.

Years ago I made a series/parallel splice box that I use to connect two cabs together in either series or parallel in order to match impedance with the amp I want to use them with. It's been an extremely helpful tool for me. Several months ago I needed to connect two 8 ohm cabs parallel in order to use them with an amp with a 4 ohm output. I needed something right then and didn't have a box available to make one so I resorted to this. I kept it and have used it a few more times since.



This is my latest. I have way too many amps to have them all out at once but I want to have some variety available for immediate use. I don't have much available wall space in my home office where I play because one whole wall is a closet. When we added the room we had a big closet built on one end because our house has virtually no closets. We needed somewhere to put our coats & jackets. My rack rig is taking up the only available space I have for an amp in that room and it's a lot of trouble to break down and set up again. it's been at least 6 months since I've used an actual amp and I needed to find a solution. The closet wall is the only place I have available to put another amp but we need to be able to move it quickly out of the way when we need to access the closet. An amp dolly would solve the problem. While in the garage I noticed I had a creeper that might do the job. I actually have 2 of the same one so converting one into a dolly wouldn't be a problem. I removed the cushions, added a steel bar to stiffen it then cut a piece of scrap pine and routed the bottom so it would sit over the steel bar and provide a platform for my amps.

Well, I've got nothing as cool as a series/parallel splice box made from a fish food jar.

I watch a YouTube vid about pulling bridge studs out and I made this from pvc pipe, a few washers and a bolt.
I used it to pull out the tune-o-matic studs so I could install larger studs, on my 2013 SG, for my new harmonica bridge.

Yeah the TetraMin tropical fish flakes splitter and creeper amp dolly screams redneck

That's what this thread is all about. What embarrassing Macgyver inspired mess have you used to get by with in order to solve a problem right away and then didn't replace it with the proper device.

My normal DIY series/parallel box was slightly less embarrassing. At least I used a plastic job box instead of a fish food jar.

Just make sure you never use the side with the embossed letters up against your guitar. It would really suck to stamp that writing into the body of your guitar.

Embossing the guitar would add mojo!!!

I put folded paper towels between the pvc tube and the guitar.
What I forgot to do was, to score around the bridge studs, with an xacto knife, before pulling them out. So, I wound up with a few chips around the stud holes.

This one has been discussed and celebrated many times over, but since you asked.......

TV stand on top of a tire taken from my old lady's Chevy Lumina that she totaled about 10 years ago, converted to a recording desk/rack. It's not really used as a rack anymore because the shelves fell out due to deteriorating particle board. It's also makes for a great foot stool to use while playing, as the bottom rung is at the perfect height.

This has nothing to do with my rig, but it rocks so I am going to post it anyway.

A few months ago I stomped on the gas and my driver's seat broke away from its base and reclined into the back seat. Scared the hell out of me. Still had my fingertips on the steering wheel so I pulled myself forward and kept driving. I soon realized the seat couldn't be fixed properly so I wedged this roll of foam between the front and back seat so it doesn't spontaneously recline while I am driving.

Fixed!

Okay, here's another.

My rack top pedal board made out of a piece of Pergo, a piece of 2x4 cut to fit within the x-bracing and ripped on a table saw for the right angle, 2 wood screws and some velcro. In other words random shit I had laying around in my barn.

I filled a new rack case too fast and don't have space for a rack drawer so.......

I recently overhauled a friend's early 70's P bass, and the pickguard was in a couple different pieces. After a little super glue, and LOTS of sanding, it was made whole again.


I have never owned a Pedaltrain, or any pedalboard that I didn't make myself. Ikea GORM 4 lyfe...
