Thinking about dropping some change on a permanent solution to home/live recording. advertised at 16x16 simultaneous tracks recording at once, with 2 master outputs. Thing looks awesome, but im just seeing if anyone else has used one before i pull the trigger. one for sale locally for $750.

Um...that's a great price for one of those, less than half what they cost new I think. I have one of the smallest of the i series, the 820i and it has been great. I used to use the old Mackie Onyx Satellite too, and it was great until it started having electrical issues. Then again, it was kind of complicated by comparison, meant to be a compact mobile and stationary solution in one. I haven't had a single issue with my 820i and I have had it for close to two years.

Well, the original 1640 isn't a bad board but it doesn't have the firewire interface stock, you had to buy it as an add-on. If the one you're looking at has the firewire card, it may still not be a bad deal. If it doesn't its obviously useless as a recording interface.

Doesnt have the FireWire card but the asking price is $650. Is that enough to offset the cost of purchasing the FireWire card separately?

New the firewire card was like $300 or something...it is a legacy device now though so you would have to try and find a used one on ebay or something.
