Eurovision Song Contest:The Story of Fire Saga - Will Ferrel

Post by K-Bizzle »

Any of you guys seen this movie?
My wife and I fucking loved it and have watched it 3 times since we first found it only 10 days ago.
We're even walking around our house singing the stupid songs in it.

For me its my favorite Ferrel movie in years and both he and Rachel McAdams are killer in it.

10/10 do recommend for stupid comedy consumption.

Yeah, I thought it was mildly amusing, nowhere near as funny as the actual eurovision used to be when Terry Wogan used to do the commentary.

I enjoyed it. It didn't quite land for me 100% but Sara and I laughed the whole time. Thats all I can ask for from a comedy.

My favorite Will Ferrell joint is probably Semi-Pro.

It has some great moments. Don't watch the previews, though. They spoil too many good jokes.

Agreed completely. We've talked about watching this a time or 3 but can't quite pull the trigger. I trust the cast on this but just like pretty much every dumb-humor comedian; he has a finite amount of gas in the tank before he loses the humor part of the equation and just keeps the dumb portion. I think the last movie I liked with him was the Other Guys? Sandler is the same way; yet I have found I still give his dreck a chance. Even when I know the straight to Netflix movie is going to be terrible? So maybe this particular Ferrel flick will surprise us?

It did not hurt that we were coming down on psychedelics the first watch so we were laughing in excess than what is probably necessary.
My favorite of his is Talladega Nights.

Just being honest.
I would recommend at least a bit of the devils lettuce prior to watching, will certainly assist the experience.

It was good, and Eurovision is a massive deal in the Europe even if it is shite.

Personally, I much preferred the Father Ted eurovision episode, strangely they also were chosen because Ireland couldn't afford to host the next years show if they won (yes, I am suggesting it was plagiarised).

Both of these people actually are what make it appealing to me instead of Farrel  Dan Stevens is awesome in serious stuff but I am betting he does great in this. McAdams seems to have a great sense of humor in things she has been in as well.

I was singing that song at my wife all day yesterday.
Thats the thing that cracks me up about all the songs in this movie is they're just BARELY parody level and not to mention catchy as FUCK.

We watched it tonight. It's a good movie to watch with your significant other. More cute than funny, I think, but still very entertaining.

Wife and I tried it. I could tell she checked out an hour in. So, I turned it off. If we are doing Will Ferrel favorites, I have to say his character "Chaz Michael Michaelson" in Blades of Glory was probably my favorite.

K-Bizz got everyone watching this damn thing last night

Randoms before a severe over-analysis of the film in question.

1. Devin; I have tried Uncut Gems. But Sandler's loud, yelly thing and the whole sports betting/chronic gambler thing didn't pull me in. I keep hearing good things and need to try again I think as Sandler is usually great is certain serious roles.

2. Ryan; Blades of Glory is awesome. That, Old School and Stepbrothers are probably my fave Will Ferrel pics.

Now. Eurovision. Watched it last night. It reminded me a LOT of Popstar, that flick by Lonely Island. As in it's made by funny people and has a good cast; but has music throughout that I absolutely LOATHE. To be fair, Dan Steven's song was fantastic. I thought my wife was going to check out and that part was when she started rolling. Fire Saga's songs were great (in the context of the film obviously) as well.

That little observation out of the way; I was surprised by it quite a bit. It took a bit to get going for me and I almost turned it off a few times because the songs by every other act in the film were just too modern Glee (aka horrific autotuned garbage over top of ridiculously over-emotive pop dreck) for my old man tastes. The "song-along" or whatever at Dan's castle party was a dangerous tipping point but by then we had enough time invested in it where we had to finish it.

I am glad we did. While Farrell was funny in a few spots; he was definitely carried by the rest of the cast. Not that that's a surprise. Rachel McAdams was fantastic. Dan Stevens was fantastic. Pierce Brosnan, who I usually don't like; was great as well. I think it would have been a better watch if they would have trimmed a lot of the music production portion of the film. They need some of that, obviously; but that song-along scene was absolutely painful. Ugh.

Speaking of songs; (and I know this song fits the description of what I don't like a paragraph up :cop: ) that end song was a perfect emotional note to cap off the film. It was hitting some good feels considering how ridiculous of a flick it was

Overall, not perfect; but ended up liking it much more than I expected I would. No Devil's Lettuce required   :D

It is definitely better if you are familiar with the real Eurovision. We have friends who host a Eurovision finals party every year and it is a blast.

If I was coming down from a trip I could see it being a lot more amusing to me though

I thought some of the music was much better than the normal output, and that some some countries would benefit from employing the soundtrack writers to write for them.

Disclaimer; I've not really watched it properly for a few years, since wogan left.
