Tricks of the trade - hiding stuff

I've got a 412 coming and needed to clear some "stuff" so it doesn't seem as ridiculous in the room when it comes. I spent last Sunday afternoon putting shelves up in the end of a coat closet so I can tuck away amps not in use. Slide some coats over and presto, no more amps. Sometimes putting stuff away helps smooth the arrival of more shit. It helps you get away with statements like, "oh I've had that for years". What tricks do you guys use?

I've been clearing amps and speaker cabs out of my studio so I don't have to hear "don't you already have enough amps" every time I start drooling over something new. The wife thinks speaker cabs are amps :nono:

Fender in the master bedroom

Line6 (to be sold) stuff in the garage

Boogie, Marshall, JCA + 2 speaker cabs in studio, along with a borrowed bass amp. Much better now :thu:

Second Randall RG80
Me: I have a new amp coming in next week.
Her: Where you going to put it?
Me: In my room.
Her: In your room? Your don't have any room in your room.
Me: I'll stack it on top of the other RG80.
Her: Well, OK.

Vox AC15
Me: It's on sale for $399, marked down from $699!!!
Her: Wow, that sounds like a good deal!
Her: Where you going to put it?
Me: In the living room.
Her: WTF? In the living room?
Me: Yes. it looks cool, it's a Custom, two tone TV model, you won't even notice it.
Her: Well, OK. (It was not OK!)

Hotone Purple Wind
Me: Hi sweetie! I bought a new amp!
Her: WTF! Where you going to put it!?!?!? You already have an amp in the living room!
Me: (showing her the tiny little Hotone) look, it's so tiny!
Her: Well, OK.

Sunn Solarus
Me: Hey sweetie! I'm getting a new amp!
Her: WTF, where you going to put it? You still have that amp in the living room!
Me: It's OK, the guy at the music store said he would give me $450 for it. It won't be in the living room anymore.
Her: No more amp in the living room?
Me: YES!
Her: So, where are you going to put the new one?
Me: I'm going to stack it in my room.
Her: Well, OK.

I only really get away with pedal acquisitions without having to "answer" for it. Plus there's nowhere to hide anything in my house right now, anywhere.

I ran out of room ages ago. Now I try to shuffle things around and change the setup with the thought that she probably can't tell the difference. Honestly, my wife is super cool about my gear hoarding, and only occasionally will drop a guilt trip like "a new guitar, eh? well that could have been a fun vacation..." She's usually right, though.

I have found there are two ways to argue with my wife and neither of them work...

My wife crushes my arguments in ways that make no sense yet they are soooo effective. It's almost like the more sound and measured my argument is the worse it will be for me.

My wife has 5 guitars of her own so she really doesn't have an argument.

Besides, 90% of my amps are fixer uppers I pick up cheap and repair. That's half the fun IMO. Four of them weren't even working when I bought them.

lol, nice I'm not the only one.

Guitars is easy. I'll just place the new guitar in the middle of the flock for a couple months. Amps, I generally tell her about lol. Although just the other day I got a great Recto cab for a steal. I brought it home put it in the living room and she never even asked me about it ha ha ha. cheers, Lucius

My wife knows some gear. Nothing slips past. She found a Tele I was hiding in a soft case once. Caught me lying about it. Led to a good conversation about gear but it was awkward. Now, I have to sell stuff if getting new stuff.

No one notices this - it's practically invisible!
