Incoming control surface

I have wanted another means for mixing in the box rather than using a mouse to make adjustments. I talked with Loop and he suggested the Nektar Panorama P1. It has a full integration with Reaper, but with its macros function can program hot key functions that are within the DAW. According to Loop, if the DAW supports HUI or Mackie Control Protocol this unit will integrate. It uses MIDI over USB to control DAW functions via its buttons, rotary knobs, and faders. What I am hoping is that this will allow me to more easily mix my recordings as well as make automation that much easier.

I should have this delivered tomorrow, and I hope that I can get it up and running smoothly.

I originally was going to go with a PreSonus Faderport, which is a single fader setup, but Loop recommended this one because I will be able to do more.

I hope that it does what I want and doesn't deter from the process.

This is the Faderport

That looks sweet. I've been thinking of something like that or the Slate touch screen thingy. Can you link more together? I'd need at least 24 tracks.

Hmmm... I don't really know if you can or not. I didn't need that many, since you can toggle tracks between tracks with the device, I figured the amount of faders were fine. I wonder if you PM Loop if he would know the answer to that.

So this controller with Reaper is fucking awesome! I haven't figured out how to integrate with my main DAW (Mixbus 3), but the already made preset for Reaper from Nektar integrates the unit seemlessly!

If you are interested in an affordable controller for Reaper, Cubase, or Reason I highly recommend this one.

Cool! I just talked with Loop this morning about the Raven and even though I REALLY want it, not sure I need it. He recommended the Persons as well.

Maybe a dumb question - do the controls sync with the track settings when you load up a song in your DAW? In other words, when you're working with a file with the levels set accordingly, then open another file, do the faders & knobs move to the correct positions?

If they are motorised faders they will, and the knobs are continuos.

If you are referring to the Panorama unit above, it doesn't have motorized faders or rotary knobs. It syncs up, but it won't adjust until you reach the value within the track you are trying to adjust. The Faderport has a motorized fader though.

That's what I was wondering about. I've got a cheapie Korg unit that gives me faders & knobs, but I brain-seized on the fact that the thing wouldn't sync whenever a new track was loaded. Definitely curious as to how intuitive that work-around works for you, Cole.

Looks really great

So far it has been awesome! I am hoping that Nektar will put out a configuration for Mixbus 3 soon, but until then it works seemlessly with Reaper.

I keep watching vids on the Nectar thing. I think I may grab one of these too...

It sure is easier on the wrist than using a mouse. I am looking forward to Harrison's controller for Mixbus, whenever it will be available (hopefully in the next few months).

Pretty sweet! I have been using MCU pro and extenders, but this would be nice for portable situations. I don't think they make units with 45mm motorized faders.
