May have bought a counterfeit Eclipse ii

Post by ActionJackson »

I just bought an Eclipse ii silver sparkle on eBay, and I waited and did a ton of research on it before I pulled the trigger. It's a US seller, so I'm covered under buyer protection and its actually listed as a legit ESP.

I asked to see the serial number and to get more pics of the fret board hut be said be was out of town and that wasn't going to send a serial number number due to the chance of a fraud to which I did research on that and I guess the new thing is to not take pictures.

After I bought it, the Eclipse logo caught my eye and it looked a little off. I did some research and it looks way off and I can't find old pictures from official websites that match it. I already payed through PayPal. What should I do?

Here is the auction listing:

http://payments.mobileweb.ebay.com/pay? ... 8617646014

I have done purchases like this in the past with no issues, but I'm getting a weird feeling about this. He hasn't shipped yet.

Can you post the pics directly? The eBay link is not working.

I'm on a pad so I can't get the img URL's. Let me see if this works:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/330866723512?ss ... 1497.l2649

I can kinda see the ESP on the 12 fret. I heard that was a indicator of being legit. Thanks again.

It's already re-listed with the description "I thought I would never part with this'.......

How many of them did he have??
That seems suspicious to me, but I have nothing to offer on the looks of the guitar.

It looks real to me. It also looks fucking awesome

The "Eclipse" logo does look weird but its hard to tell if thats due to the pic being sort of blurry and/or the finish itself causing it to wash out

It is weird that he has two auctions for it though

If it is a fake it looks extremely well done from the front anyway :D

Hey guys,

Thanks for the responses! He actually just sent me three camera phone photos before he shipped and it looks like the way it's supposed to. It should be noted that he's been really good at responding back to me and is quite nice.

Ill see if I can find a host for the images.

For some reason, even though I rotated, it still posts upside down.

It sounds like everything should be fine and I hope it is man!

This makes no sense to me though.

I asked to see the serial number and to get more pics of the fret board hut be said be was out of town and that wasn't going to send a serial number number due to the chance of a fraud to which I did research on that and I guess the new thing is to not take pictures.

What kind of fraud could be pulled by the serial number? Then the number is out in the wild and people could use it on copies? Do they think this isn't possible anyway? Confusing.

Anyway, hope you enjoy your new guitar!

I agree. Apparently, the scam is that someone takes your posted serial number and calls the cops. Claims that you stole his guitar. If you don't have the receipt which is pretty likely with most people, you could be locked with some legal battle.

It doesn't make sense, but I actually saw posts on other forums if this was a thing and sure enough, it is.

But the other guy has no proof its his either..... :freak:

I suppose people always will find something to worry about. Glad it seems to be legit and the deal is going good for you! :thu:
