Interface and V-Drum help

So trying to wrap my head around this for my drummer.

He has a Roland TD10, Focusrite Scarlet 6i6 and MacBook Pro.

I should go from the Midi Out on the TD10 to the Midi In on the Scarlet, then the USB on the Scarlett to the MacBook Pro?

sounds right , if it doesn't work flip the midi in/outs around , sometimes midi stuff is goofball . are you controlling a VSTI like Slate drums ?

You could also do USB from the V-drum module directly to the computer.

That will only work if, like fretless asked, you're using a software plug in like Steven Slate, Addictive Drums, etc... Otherwise...you won't have drums coming through.

Whichever software plugin you use will have its own midi map. You'll need to find it online. It'll tell you which "note/number" it's looking for the drums to send. My guess is you'll have to go in the V module and program each hit to the corresponding midi note it's looking for. It's not hard, but it takes a little time. My suggestion is make a separate patch/kit in the module for this.

Replace every "you" with "he" if he's the one doing it. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Yea, this is how you'd do it if you just want to track sounds that are in the V Drums already. Or use the line out.

Not true. MIDI will transfer this way. This is how I set it up and I use Superior Drummer for the sounds. I don't even think you can get the V-drum sounds through USB.

You're right. Getting the V Drum audio would only work through headphone or 1/4" out

So if you want to:

-Use the sounds from the V-drums - Run a 1/4" cable from the headphone or line out of the V-Drum to one of the audio inputs on the Scarlett

-Use sounds from software VST on the macbook - Use a USB cable from the V-drums to the macbook... or MIDI cable from MIDI out on the V-drums to the MIDI in on the Scarlett

Sorry all. Yes, we are using Slate Platinum 4. We will be using them live as well. No audio from the Roland is necessary. The Slate by default is mapped to the Roland stuff as far as I understand.

Nice! How is the latency (delay)? That's the only problem I've had with doing it this way. I don't hear it but the drummer I play with does.
