+1 on the '57 Classic.
Another option if you're looking for a little more brightness is the 490R.

are we talking stock pickups??? if not the best neck pickup I've used is the Seymour Duncan Jazz... it's nice and warm but VERY clear and still has a really nice top end

The Gibson ones bro, as I'm more familiar with their bridge pickups more than their neck ones.
Loves me some SD Jazz too btw.

I like the new custom buckers alot, they sound great.
Not as harsh or bright as the bb1&2, they are more balanced and warmer sounding with more clairity.
They arent high output but i really like how they sound with my amps.

hahaha... whoops... my bad... didn't have enough coffee in my system when I first read the topic... I could have SWORE I saw neck pickup FOR Gibson... not FROM Gibson... that being said the 490 in my ES-137 is pretty nice

A 57 Classic is sweet -- but I think I'm one of the few that like stock Burstbuckers. I have them in two of my LP's -- I especially like the neck pup.
Re: Sweetest neck pickup from Gibson?
57s and 490s so far have come up here, 57s being much common among people I've asked.
Keep them coming bros, suggestions from other models they make are welcomed!
Oh yeah, I have a P-94R on my Epi G400, that one's pretty cool too, in case anyone is wondering. I know indienoise and YOUNGBL00D likes 'em too!

i like bb the 1/2/3, i have them in a few of my lesters but i only like the potted versions because they squeel too much with my amps, i use them for rock stuff or in the case of the bb3 i can use it for some metal. over the years ive used bkp, suhr and some other brands of high gain pu and didnt like them as much as a lower gain pu thats a little on the bright side, i see alot of hate for bb pu but theres still a few of us that like them, erock was using bb pros and loved them and he plays some heavy stuff.
the 57 classic also sounded excellent with my les paul customs but i didnt like them as much with my 59 reissue, im thinking that i like the tone of the ebony fretbaord paired with the 57 classic rather than teh rosewood fb on the 59.

The most awesome neck pickup tones from a Gibson come from a P90.

I think I'm about to switch back to a pair of Gibson 57's to replace the BKP's in my LP.
57 clips on yootoob sound pretty good.

Re: Sweetest neck pickup from Gibson?
I'm about to swap the 490/498 set in my SG for a set of BurstBuckers out of an LP... I've got to be honest, the 490/498 are pretty underwhelming.

Re: Sweetest neck pickup from Gibson?
498 is an extremely friendly pickup IMHO. sits well with any amp and is nicely typical humbucker-juicy/a true workhorse pup and totally underrated IMHO
