Been thinking about doing more demos at home.. right now I just use my POD HD to get my guitar in to Garage Band and it works ok, but I want to up my game a little and get a proper interface... what are you guys using out there?

I've just jumped in myself - went with the Presonus Audiobox after watching the "$300 Recording Challenge" clips Nakedzen was kind enough to post.
So far, so good. Less than $100 bucks, easy set up, simple to use, quality recordings.

I'm using a Mackie Blackjack and it's working out well.

Find a used Focusrite Scarlett.
2i4
6i6
18i20
18i8
The solo and 2i2 don't have enough ins and outs though, IMO. I have the 2i2, and I love it.

What are you going to record? If you're just going to record direct guitar, I'd stick with the Pod HD. It's plenty proper for recording DI guitars. If you want to use amp sims and stuff, just turn off the amp and cab modeling and you'll be capturing the DI just fine with the Pod's Hi-Z input.

what i normally do is do a stereo set up with the POD HD going to one channel and my raw guitar to another channel, that way if I don't like the tone the POD HD recorded with or I want another tone I use POD Farm in Garage band... I was thinking about expanding my recording abilities a bit though, mic up my amp, or micing my acoustic.. plus possibly vocals if needed... now... technically I can do that with the POD but mics sound like shit IMO through it

Ah yeah in that case a traditional interface would be good, I just wanted to make sure you weren't spending more than necessary if you were just going to do DI guitars.
I think the new Audient iD14 looks by far to be the best bang for the buck for small interfaces. I loved the bigger iD22.

yeah... for now it will be mostly direct but I don't plan on doing that alone and would like to have the option to use mics.. the members of the original band I'm in now have kinda rough schedules with the exception of the singer and I who do most the song writing so it's cool for the two of us to get together and get the bones of the songs arranged and e-mail the tracks for everyone else to either learn or write their parts.

Yeah, I dig Presonus stuff. I've got the iTwo, which works with both Mac/PC as well as iPad, which is cool.
