Call me a skeptic but, it seems odd that he would put so much work and money into that amp and then be willing to trade down to a Bugera.

looks pretty beat up to me... I'd say if he's not too far can't hurt to go look... but it might be too good to be true...

This. It would be one thing if he just needed cash but he wants to move a Marshall for a bugera? He fucked it up...

45 minutes away... debated e-mailing him and asking what was wrong with it. Does seem a little too good to be true. Not sure if he did the mods himself or had someone do em. Might have been a hack-job.

yeah... would suck to lose 2 hours and come back empty handed... e-mail is probably the best way to go...

Sounds like a massive hack job to me.
Now he's looking to cut his losses.

I could be wrong, of course, but I don't think I'd be interested if it were me.

I would ask more about the mods. Noob DIYers can mod an amp into a POS.

It does seem like a 'screw up and bail out' deal.

Ask for gut shots & good clear shots of the rear panel of the amp.

I would say *if* possible to get some gut shots of the work or at the very minimum to get as much info and ask questions from the guy and see how that goes, that would help tings out a lil

Hes 45 minutes away? -- Thats not that far for me to check a amp out, (if it was 2-3 hrs or so, thats a different story) but 45 minutes? Pffft thats not a big deal, especially if its a amp you really want to hear for yourself in person

If he answers ya prompt and seems like hes a solid guy (not a jerkoff) it might be worth a quick spin, it might be a nice amp and the down side is a lil time and gas $$ if the amp sounds like shit

:idk:

I think the best thing to do is check it out for yourself. Yeah he's a little bit away but you never can tell. For me that's part of the fun of looking for new gear. :idk:

Something to keep in mind, is to find out if the "mods" are reversible / if the amp can be put back to "stock" , and the amp apppear to not ever been f*cked with,

If it's not been drilled on, and just components swapped, you could put it back to stock & clean it up & get more out of it than what you paid for it.

I've took beater amps & simply did some cleaning up on them (inside & out) & replaced missing logos, feet, removed stickers, etc and improved the asthetics of them & made money off of 'em.

Some folks HEAR with their eyes. It's amazing what a toothbrush, paper towels, some windex & some Armor All or Pledge can do.
