So, my band (which also happens to be Matt and Professor Dickweed's band...) released our first demo track from our upcoming album. Figured I'd share it with you all, knowing that everyone here won't like it, but oh well.
It's probably more on the rock side than the metal that most around here want. But oh well, putting myself out there anyway
Guitars on the left are all Bogner Ecstasy through Bogner 4x12. Guitars on right are Fryette Sig:X through VHT 4x12.

Rhythmically sloppy, but I understand it's a demo, so who cares? The left/right with some of the parts is also a little strange, but I can understand that too. Guitar tones are awesome, and no surprise considering the gear. I like it!

Thanks Mike and Filter!
Yeah, there is definitely some rhythmic slop in this, but it will all be sorted out when we record again. Appreciate the constructive criticism too...Thanks for the compliments both of you!

Sounds good, rhythm guitar could be a bit tighter but the tone is solid. I really like the vocals, they remind me of some of the older Incubus material.

I totally see this band rocking out shows and tearing it up. How many other songs do you have and when is the first show?
I'm glad you all are having fun. That is the most important part and easy to do when your making music like this.

We have 6 songs demo'd, still need to finish a few things on them. And we have 3 more in the works.

Dude, that's awesome! Thanks man! We want to bring the rock Come to KC I'll buy you a beer...
That actually goes for most of this forum actually
To answer the last question, being that this is the first time I've actually sang in a band, it's taking longer to get prepared...So we aren't really sure when we'll play the first show, but SOON! The last thing I want to do is go play a show unprepared and look like a colossal clusterfuck up there, you know what I mean? Not a good way to have people want to see you again

Am listening now and enjoying! Agree about the rhythmy stuff, but hey. Just keep at it, getting tighter with new material is about playing and internalising it.

Love the guitar tones. It'll tighten up with practice. I like it, reminds me of Rival Sons.

awwww shit that is you singing!?!?!?! i am more impressed now, lolololololololol. srsly though great job.
i know what you mean about being prepared. we are in the same boat kinda. got about 5-6 songs so far with frameworks for 3-4 more and I am itching to gig too but dont want to look like an asshole up there with sweet gear and a sloppy, unprepared band.
i am sure you are like us and every practice is getting better though which is the important part. just takes time. our drummer hadnt been in a band for a while so its taking him time to get his muscle memory back and in shape enough to make it through the set.
keep posting songs as you have them!!!

I'll own up to it, the slop is all mine! Just needs more practice. May be time to break out the metronome again.

I like it a lot. Where's the epic rip yer face off solo for the instrumental section at the end?

Bryan, that's killer! The first half is perfect and I love the vocals. They lay in just perfectly, and I'm a stickler for that. On the second half I have 2 suggestions. At 4:25, the beat that comes in and carries the song the rest of the way is pretty boring. Have the drummer mix it up and add some energy. It's just too straight forward IMO. Other than that, some haunting vocals in the second half would be great too. That part of the song just kind of drags a bit. Overall though it's REALLY REALLY good, and your vocal work is killer. Great job.

Macelind, well I can't play a face melting solo myself lol!!! Sucks but I can't a do think a gilmourish solo would fit in there rather well! Thanks for checking it out!
Joe, much appreciated there man. Thank you! Believe it or not I actually have some "distant" oohs and aahs muted on this track. I added them when I originally tracked vocals, but muted them because I didn't know how it would fit. I may unmute and share with the band to see what they think. I can see how it might drag to some, but we were kind of going for just a groove piece there. I'll play around with some Vocals there! Thanks so much for the compliments and suggestions.
That actually goes for everyone, you all rock.

I'll echo that fact that rhythmically it's a bit off in spots. Rhythm guitars could lock in a bit better with the drummer, but you're drummer's meter wavers in spots as well so that's not helping.
I know it's a pain in the ass but playing with a click track does help a lot in rock music when tight rhythms/riffing are required.
The only other major critique I have is that I think the song is just too long. The rhythm breaks in the choruses sound good, but I think cutting the rhythm breaks in half would make the choruses flow better,...more of a hook. The mellow outro of the song does sound very nice but you could cut it by at least a minute, maybe more. Also, that part is just begging for some ethereal guitar solo'ish stuff,...maybe some vocal ear tweaks in the background with some delay,...hard panned left or right. If you don't want to shorten the part adding the guitar and vocal parts would just make it more interesting IMO.
BTW, the vocals sound very good, but could be up a bit more in the mix during the verses. They're a bit washed out by guitars until you get to the chorus. But I do realize it's just a demo.
Overall I think it's solid -- just gotta tighten things up a bit.

I quite like it. A few suggestions would be; a) chop about 2 minutes off the song, make it a little shorter and more to the point. b) make the vocals in the verses stand out a litle more/ come through a little clearer (good job singing btw) c) like the others said, having the rythm section a little tighter wouldn't hurt.

Anderton, yeah daz me! Thanks!
Cibyl - Appreciate the comments, I haven't met a drummer who likes metronomes or click tracks I'm best friends with a jazz drummer who is a complete stud, and when I suggest recording to a click, he grunts and usually fucks up...So I'm kind of used to it. I agree with the clicks though...It makes recording a ton easier too... As for the instrumental part, you are the 2nd person who thinks there should be some kind of solo during that...we shall experiment. As for length, we aren't really trying to be a radio band, and live, these songs could extend even further if we want to jam a bit...So who knows how that will go. Appreciate the comments though!
