Goldtop got a new look and wiring today!

So Gibson uses a circuit board for mounting their pots, switch and jack. Fuck that shit! Since I was changing out the pickups anyhow, I had my buddy gut out that circuit board and hard wire it. It has a "50's vintage wiring" done to it now which helps to not lose treble when rolling off the volume knobs. The 36th anny Dimarzios sound fantastic in it also as well as looking bad ass!!!

Nice guitar! I don't see the benefit, other than faster assembly, to use a PCB setup... It really makes me wonder if the Les Paul crowd is really asking for the "innovations" that Gibson is putting on their products.
I am glad to see that you have made things right; however, we need some videos/clips of these beast!

its not a terrible thing, tbh. faster assembly and more reliable connections in some instances. this wiring job is awesome, but you can still solder/desolder on the PCBs, so changing pickups isnt out of the question. What is anyone's real downside with PCBs?

How is it a clusterfuck?
They've been able to offer options like push/pull pots, and do so for cheaper with more reliable connections.

Yeah, I think everything besides the RIs, Traditionals, and Trad Pros come with the PCB now...
I didn't like the idea at first, but if you buy a bunch of those little Molex connectors it makes pickup swaps faster than changing your strings.

Ok, about the circuit board....I had a 2010 studio and the pickup wires were soldered to the board and had a clip type connector on the wire. This made the pickup change a breeze. On this new one, the pickup connector was wired straight onto the board and the tiny wires would slip right out of the connector. We got frustrated with it and said fuck it and hard wired it. The new PCB style they use sucks!!!

I dont want to have to change all the pots & wiring if i want to put Seymour Duncans in a new LP.
I know you can attach it to the board but it seems cheezy to me. For $1800+ buck i want real pots.
Gibsons labor saving methods are tacky at best.
With the money you save you can buy some pots, caps and resistors to wire it up proper like. This isn't rocket science and if you're always changing pickups then its not out of your scope of work.

the cavity of an LP/SG is already a clusterfuck. PCB is helping things, imo.

hoe often do you change your strings? are they sentimental to you?

This is my Goldtop pots. Replaced the disc caps with SoZo mustards, noticable difference.
What was the difference? Was the guitar brighter, more clear? I'm curious now because I've never been one to leave well enough alone.

I don't know anything about the circuit boards from Gibson because I've not owned a more recent Gibby, but much love for getting shit rewired and bringing the awesome into your LP.

Dave is correct. Also with a PCB they have a ground plane, so its essentially star grounded. zero chance of a ground loop.

Yes. Do you know what a ground loop is?
