Aphex USB 500 guys - Would this work?

So, Now that I have Aphex USB500 for my conversion/inputs/monitoring/etc.

I want to use it to insert hardware into my tracks.

Would the Radial Shuttle insert work for this? Just throw it in a slot, and plug something into the ins and outs, bang. right? (assuming I know how to do that in reaper, and adjust shit for latency)

Are you sure you even need that? You're talking about using stuff as a hardware insert while mixing, correct?

If I'm not mistaken...you can do that with the switches in the back.

Sex,

I'm talking about using non-500 series stuff though. like a line level rack unit.

Does that make sense?

Thanks!

Makes sense...yes.

I don't see why it wouldn't work? I saw something similar on GS about someone trying to do something to that nature.

I wonder if there's a way to set it up to where you go USB in to a module, then output to the external gear, and back into another module input...

Might be worth e-mailing Aphex to see if there's a way to do it without buying more shit?

I'm having trouble seeing how it would work.

Are you saying to plug a rack unit into the pair of XLR jacks that are on one channel?

No, I'm saying go from the output of a module into the RU, and then from the RU to the input of another module (with no actual modules inserted). No clue if it would work...just riffin' here.

I never knew you even needed special hardware to do this

I thought you could just go interface output > fx hardware > back in to an input.....no?

What you're saying makes sense. It has connected in my brain.

Now, I just need to get this thing hooked up.

Best of luck. I'd try it, but I have no outboard gear. (Well I have some shitty comps I use for live sound, but I wouldn't dare use them in the Studio)

Really tempted to pick up a couple DBX 560a's while SW has them on sale.

Man, I have no time right now. Painting the bachelor pad. Watching the voice. Working. I don't even know if I can make this happen with the cables I have. Fuckin xlr.

Is this just to make the outboard effect easily switched on and out?
I'm not really seeing what it does for the it probably costs.

What?

I want to insert hardware that isn't 500 series.

Sex panther says I may be able to do it with the xlr jacks on the back.

I haven't had a chance to try yet.

Ok - bear with me, I'm slow.....

Doesn't the 500 stuff still have regular inputs/props on both ends of the chain?
Or does this let you insert it somewhere at a specific point mid-chain?

do you mean the modules or the unit itself?
