USB interfaces?

I'm getting fed up with my computer, and was considering getting a new one. But I realized I have my girlfriend's laptop readily accessible, and it's more than powerful enough (A significant upgrade from my computer). The only issue is, it doesn't have a line in. So I think I may have to actually look into getting some kind of interface. However, I'm totally clueless when it comes to that stuff...I've always just done all my recording through the line in port of the sound card.

HALP.

Unless you are recording a whole band simultaneously, you don't need a mixer, just an USB audio interface will do. If you want something simple, cheap and good sounding, I'd recommend the Tascam US122 MKII.

Unless you specifically need multiple inputs, I recommend getting the Yamaha THR10 desktop amp because it doubles as a USB interface, can record DI tracks along with your tone simultaneously, doubles as a monitor system, can run on batteries, and sounds fucking AWESOME.

I love mine just as much as my big tube rigs. Best practice/recording amp there is.

There's also the more br00tz-oriented THR10X, but the THR10 can brootz well, too.

I see. Sounds cool, but I don't really need an actual amp. I like my Mark IV just fine.

Mackie onyx, those sound great.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mackie-Onyx-Blackjack-2x2-USB-Computer-Audio-Interface-/390536406058?pt=US_Computer_Recording_Interfaces&hash=item5aedc8a42a

Seriously, if these have the same DA/AD and preamps as the the other Mackie onyx stuff this is a deal and half.

Thinking ahead, I may need more inputs than those...say, if I wanted to record drums down the line. Unless I wanted to try recording the kits piece by piece instead of all-at-once. But I could probably rig something up with the output from my PA for that I guess. I should probably focus on low latency and clean signal and worry less about conveniences.

Fuck if I know what I'll need.

You didn't specify budget? Depending on budget, one of these:

Focusrite Scarlett 18i20, Roland Octa-Capture or Steinberg UR824

Devin, I was thinking of getting either the THR10c or x. I think it comes with Cubase software, does it include any drum samples or loops? I also checked a Presonus interface that comes with Studio One & includes drums. Thanks in advance.

I have been extremely happy with my Focusrite Saffire 6 USB. I could only imagine that their new Scarlett line sounds good too.

Any suggestions for settings on a THR10?

I have a M-Audio Fast Track Pro. Apparantly, they're no longer made. I've seen 'em go used on eBay for under $50. I bought mine to use with Guitar Rig because latency was terrible going straight into my sound card. Accepts 1/4 and XLR as input.

I was trying to leave the budget unmentioned until I got an idea of what was out there...but I can't see myself spending more than a couple hundred...$300's probably my ceiling.

Since you wanted the option to record drums, I think the Tascam US-1800 (or the discontinued US-1641) is the cheapest out there that's worth anything.
