Greenbacks or Vintage 30's...

I'm thinking about swapping out the Greenback speakers in my Mojo 4x12 for Vintage 30's. Tell me why I should, or shouldn't, do this.
BTW, I'm running a Jet City 100h into this cab.
Go!

Why you should? If you love shitty tone
Why you shouldn't? Save money, time, energy, have better tone, better response, you won't suck, girls will suck your dick for no reason, and they're not v30's

Dave...
I love V30s myself. I like greenbacks too but it really has a lot more to do with the rest of your signal chain. V30s work great with some amps, not with others, definitely try your head with a v30 cab first and see if you like it IMO.

Definitely this ~ I find it's very amp-dependent. Also, ask yourself what frequencies you want to accent/roll off, and check the specs for Greenies vs. V30s.

I have a quad of v30's I will trade for your greenbacks.
Very well broken in from my orange cab.

With the JCA100H, yes absolutely. The V30 is the best match for that amp, it really opens it up. I've tried a bunch of different speakers with the JCA and V30s were the best by far. CL80's are cool too. The GBs are not bad at all, but the JCA has really low mids that tend to get undefined with the GBs.

Peaveys x V30's-like
Marshalls (Master Volume 2203's & 2204's) v30's. -DNW
NMV Marshalls with v30's - AWFUL .
Later Marshalls w v30's -like

V30's are great with the JCA100H, like Billy and others said.
If you want something to transition you to V30s, look at Eminence Wizards. Cross between Greenbacks and V30s. Rocking a pair of those in my Gflex cab right now.
Lynchbacks are great with the JCA as well. Sort of like the Wizards but not quite as clear - although I haven't tried a direct comparison in the same cab. I think I would like Lynchbacks better in a 4x12 rather than a 2x12 I currently have.
Weber FC12s (Fane Clone). Played through a pair of those at the KC Ampfest and was blown away.

Maybe it just doesn't work for the type of music you're going for?
Doing that trade with Chuck is the simplest way, if you're convinced with the V30s is your absolute answer. He's a stand up guy to deal with.

Otherwise, replace two of your Greenbacks with Heritage 30s (the anniversary edition) or Avatar's Hellatone 30's (broken-in Heritage 30s).

He had some cool pickups on the SPAM thread a while back, wished I had the money.

Vintage 30s seem to have a love/hate type deal as far as speakers
Sound very good in some amps and shitty in others,(almost extremes) i like Greenbacks but V 30s do work well with some amp, push came to shove i would probably take the greenbacks
speaking of how are the newer greenbacks? - Are they good? close to the originals? anyone?

Mike Soldano agrees with this post.

I'm not quite ready to do a swap just yet, Dave. Just contemplating and being neurotic as hell about it

That's what making me think about swapping out the Greenbacks. The low mids tend to get lost in the mix or mushed out with the Greenies and they just don't get enough thump. Other than that, I like them. I think I need a more aggressive speaker.

I've done this X pattern thing before with Vintage 30's and G12H-30's. While it creates more depth in the room, you just can't replicate that over a mic without getting 2 of them involved. I'd rather have the same speakers across the board.

Trade me, fool.
Actually, I'm going to be rewiring and altering the signal path of Mega Rig (tm) a bit and may be keeping them after all. Going to use the Orange for the looper/POG side of my rig and back to the Marshall for lead playing. The Jubilee is simply a better amp for my style, though the two together are ruthless. Hopefully this will work out because the Orange is smoking as well and I love them together.

I think a 4x12 of greenbacks is great for vintage Marshall tone, but personally for me that's about where it ends. I find the woodiness, flubbiness when pushed and kinda ragged yet mellow treble to be a bit boring, I'd rather have a speaker that pummels you into submission!

Who said anything about buying?

I plan on trading right out.
I have been eyeing the WGS ET65's, though

Remember also, all V30s do NOT sound alike.
http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showth ... p?t=851486http://forum.grailtone.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=60388I have a "Mesa" V30 (T4335) in my Whitebox & can tell you firsthand it is warmer, fuller and a wee bit darker than a stock Marshall V30 and a Chinese V30. These, I believe, are what comes in a Recto cab.
I'm not saying one is better than another. Depends on what your tonal preference is.
Also, not sure which version would sound best with the Jet City. The "Mesa" version fits my 5153 great.

As someone who has 5 cabs with V30s, they don't all sound the same. But it's more the cabs they are in I think, I have 3 different mesa cabs and they all sound different.
