What headphones are you guys rocking?

I need something for tracking.

Comfort comes first.

sound comes second.

price = negotiable. $100 to $200

The most comfortable phones I ever used were a pair of AKG's back in 1997. No idea what model, but they felt like a cloud. I have a pair of some glorified iphone over ear whatevers that feel like a vice on my head. can't stand them.

Part of me thinks I need to just go to sweetwater, and demo some. Interested in the Audio Technica ATH-50X. Also interested in the AKG K141's and K240 MkII's.

I use Focal Spirit Pros, but they're sound over comfort. Although as much as everyone complains about how uncomfortable they are, they feel fine to me, but I have a small head.

For comfort and tracking use (i.e. sounds good but isn't necessarily SUPER accurate), it's pretty much impossible to beat Beyerdynamic DT770s. Very comfortable, great isolation, and they sound great although the low end is a bit big (but that can be a plus for tracking and general listening).

This subject interests me.

Slightly off topic, but I have a pair of Superlux 668B, giant killer was a term used for them. Soundwise, they are very good & nicely balanced for anything under 150 bucks (they were $30). But they are semi-open-back & not comforatable for long stretches. So not ideal for tracking, but Im keeping my eyes open. Great for mixing in conjunction with a couple pairs of good speakers.

Shure 840s, cheap but they sound ok for tracking.

Audio Technica ATH-M50 , love these cans , better than my 'spensive sony's which broke and better than my Grados , though for Open back it's hard to be the Grado pricing but I can't use open cans for anything but listening .

I haven't used these, but they look great as an option for tracking. I might have to snag a pair at some point.

Right now I have been using a pair of Yamaha RH10MS with good results. I feel like I need to get a headphone amp though, even though this pair of headphones is 32-Ohms. I feel like a lot of interfaces really don't have the best amplifier for headphones built in.

I've had a couple pairs of $100 + AKGs and loved them both.

These days, I don't care about sound. It's all about cumfart.

About 6 months ago MF had a SDOTD on some CAD MH 310s. I don't remember what I paid but it wasn't much. Ear pillow comfy.

Some Bose SoundTrues I've had for a bit. I have two pair and dig em. Ordered some ATH-M50Xs yesterday though...heard great things about em and can't wait to try them.

For open back I use AKGs. Closed back are some beat up old pair of phones my dad gave me a hundred million years ago. They're air tight and great for tracking when you need zero bleed, but not comfortable. I really need to replace them soon. They're getting a bit rattly after all the years of shitty recordings playing through them at ridiculous volume.

I'll have to keep track of this and see what other suggestions roll in. It'd be nice to have a comfortable pair of closed back.

Senheisers are always comfortable, & always sound nice. Soft, easy to listen to. Theres a pair on newegg right now & THIS (EMCAPPK69) promo code cuts em 50%.

Whatever you do, avoid the AKG M80 MkII Semi-Open Studio Headphone. They sound excellent but painfully smoosh ears and the vinyl top strap overheats and is itchy.

Got the ATH-M50Xs in today...fired em up a little while ago. Sound great! Gene, UBER comfortable, and $150-$170 on eBay.

Also, I wanna apologize to you guys for being forced to listen to shit I thought was good but couldn't hear because of the lacking phones I was using.

These things kick ass and I'm pretty sure my tones will get better. :rawk:

Sennheiser HD600. But I think those are over budget unless you find a coupon code somewhere or get used ones.

But sooo comfortable.

Old AKG K240 Monitors are the best (read: the most transparent and flat) ones they made, so if you find a pair snag it. The newer ones have a hyped eq response. You'll need a proper headphone amp to drive these though, they're 600 ohms.
