So I don't have a room where i can stuff my 4x12 and crank my amp and still have it at a reasonable volume outside of the room. So i was thinking of building a pvc pipe frame that is big enough to fit over my 4x12's with some room in the front and back of it. Then covering it with moving blankets and sleeping bags/stuff that'd be good sound insulation. I was wondering what you guys think of the idea? Is it terrible or something worth trying?

My guess is that it will help deaden the recording space (so if room reflections are an issue in your recordings, they'll be reduced), but won't have much of an effect on keeping the volume down outside the room.

Putting a booth in my recording room was the best thing I ever did. Before I did the booth, I used a Large sound proof blanket that covered the doors of a closet the cab was in. The walls of the closet has sound damp ing panels in it.

It worked great. You can buy the blankets on eBay specifically for sound proofing. I think they cost me about $50.

Its actually a good idea.. I do it, & it takes room reflections out & I find it can help with noise outside the room depending on what you use. If you start with lighter fluffy materials to slow it down, then go some heavier materials like sleeping bags to muffle it out.
Anyhow, it depends on how much sound you need killed. It wont take it all away but it will help weaken it, especially higher frequencies.

I was thinking of trying heavy quilted blankets and down comforters and then lighter stuff over that and if it seems to work (i'd like to knock like 10db's because that's around half as loud perceived volume) and if that works i'll invest in some sound deadening blankets.

Definitely try it with your household materials 1st, but think of it like a room...
The lighter, fluffy stuff inside will diffuse & absorb, then the heavy denser materials outside act more like a wall. At least best they can ...
