New Delay Day!

Post by colejustesen »

So I have been going through different delays to try and find "the one", but it has proven to be difficult as my Marshall seems to be very picky.

I was intrigued by Rocktron's Boutique series pedals when they first came out, but I really didn't pay them any attention. As I was searching for options I came across their Celestial Delay [which is a part of the Boutique series]. I found very little information on it, but there were a few video clips that sounded decent.

I was wanting an analog delay, as I really prefer the decay over that of most digital delays emulating it [though the VFE Blueprint does sound pretty damn good! Thanks Draelyc  ]. I really don't know if this is a true analog delay, though Rocktron refers to it as analog.

Anyway, on to the pedal! When I opened the box I was greeted with the pedal not wrapped in the usual bubble wrap, but it was nestled in its own velour bag. The box is a brushed metal with all its aesthetics engraved into it. I thought it looked nice, though the finish isn't quite as nice as the metallic blue on the VFE Blueprint. Though, what really matters is the sound...

The pedal has over a second of delay [utilizing its 1x or 2x button] with the option of using the fast/slow button. The decay is definitely warm, though not as warm as the Blueprint. However, the clarity is very nice. It isn't pristine like a digital delay, but it adds this sort of musical quality that I haven't heard in other delay pedals. I don't know how to describe it, but it just sounds good. I like to have slower, long delays that sound good for leads and this pedal sure delivers that. I did engage the fast button on that same setting to speed up the repeats for a bit, and that yielded a great rhythm style delay. I did have to adjust the loop level on my Marshall to get this delay to play nicely, but in the loop of my Tweaker 15 it sound awesome!

I hope to be able to record some clips of it soon that can show it off some to you guys.

That looks nice. Another excellent delay is the old Chandler Stereo Echo. Not only is it a fabulous delay, it's by-far the best flanger I've ever used. The chorus setting compares to the original Boss CE-1. You can pick these up fairly cheap on ebay from time-to-time.

The more I have used this delay, the more I like it. I really think that other people would like it too, if they gave it a shot.

I am not familiar with the Chandler Stereo Echo... I am going to Google and YouTube it for sure!

Can't say I've tried a Rocktron pedal, I've always seen loads around though.

my M5 seems to be on the way out, if not dead at this point so I've been toying with the idea of just replacing it with individual stomp boxes again, been checking out the Way Huge Supa-Puss, all the demos of that pedal sound so damn good...

Elessar, I can't say that I have tried many of their pedals... This is only the second pedal of theirs that I have tried; the other was a HUSH pedal. I am pleased thus far with this delay.

Marc G, I can agree with you that the Supa-Puss looks and sounds amazing. I actually was looking into the Echo-Puss, but this delay had caught my eye a few years earlier and I wanted to check it out. I know that you will probably be happy with the Supa-Puss!

Cole, that pedal looks awesome! I've been tempted to check out the noise gate from that series of pedals

I have wondered about the noise gate too... Not because I want to replace my Decimator, but really I wonder if they made an improvement upon the HUSH pedal they already sell... I know that the boutique version is similar in concept as the Boss NS-2 and the ISP Decimator G-String with their built in loops. I am intrigued by it too...

Yes it is. I haven't recorded anything with it yet. I'm putting a rack system together for the RK100 that will include a TC 2290, Lexi PCM 60, Chandler Echo (for flanger effect), ADA STD-1 for analog chorus.

Here's an original that I posted on YT using my old MK50H II. I can't get it to embed?
